Wild Myc or cobweb?
    #18721165 - 08/17/13 11:28 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

This has to do with a possible contam in a few BRF jars.
Humidity has been very high for these jars during colonization and I wouldn't be surprised if this is cobweb. The growth in question has grown within and on top of the dry verm layer. I believe this is because of the high humidity and perhaps not enough FAE with how I have it setup.

Do you see how there are lighter areas towards the middle of the dry verm layer?

^^ That Myc(?) is growing around and above the dry verm layer (about 1cm) and latching onto the side of the jar. Normal?

Strange thing is, the colonizing substrate below the dry verm layer is (what I've seen called) textbook rhizomorphic colonization.

I may be paranoid, but Billycorgan55's responses weren't too encouraging on this thread.

Here's another one for the technologically impaired:

That doesn't look like cobweb.  Cobweb is more grey.  This just looks like myc.  Great pics btw.  Good luck OP!

Yes, I forgot to mention the growth in question is the exact same color as the myc so I'm fairly sure it's not cobweb, just such a different texture than the healthy myc(cottony), that's what worried me. Thank you.
