Fruiting Alt 7
    #18719952 - 08/17/13 06:17 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

I am fruiting some Alt 7 and have a couple questions. It seems the formation of truffles in the sub has  caused some cracking of the surface. Is this something to be concerned with? Also, the mycelium seems to be different than say B+ or the others. It is sort of light and wispy, although its not cobwebby or anything. Just lighter than others kinds I have dealt with. Is this normal as well for this type?

ATL #7 requires a casing layer to get fruits.

Check out StoneSun's grows. He's got a lot of great threads on fruiting ATL #7s

Shit...is it to late to put a casing on it?

Yes.
StoneSun recommends to spawn to bulk before any stones appear & to apply the casing layer as soon as it's fully colonized.
Don't worry though, I had a monotub of ATLs that I was trying to fruit, which didn't work.
Got over 4 pounds of stones off of it, though.

You could try to put a casing layer on. It'll either work or it won't at this point. You won't get fruits without one.

I wouldn't hold your breath though.

So if I am just going to try for the stones instead, do I cover the tub or put it in a garbage bag and then wait a few months? I have only ever done truffles in jars so I am not sure where I go from here. Also, can I empty the sub into a garbage bag or the like while it sits? I would like to be able to use the container since the bulk has to sit for so long. Maybe poke a couple holes in a bag and tie it, will that work?

I'd definitely still try to case and fruit it.
If you decide to go for the stones only, just leave it be.

Just out of curiosity, why not let stones form before spawning?

Also, is there a difference between a stone pre- and post- fruiting, potency or otherwise?

You can, but when more sclerotia forming in your substrate,
fruiting performance will be poorer.

 I don't know about potency.

Like SS said, I'd throw a casing on there and see what happens.

Don't put it into a bag or anything like that. Just leave it alone and buy another tub for $6.

In your kitchen though man? Oh yeah, I think we already talked about this one.

I suppose they would need a casing like that for humidity. Is that the same run where you didn't get spores Abstract? Perhaps it was because of the lack of humidity once they got over the caseing.

Big_Earl may or may not have some colonizing on Whole Brown Rice + gypsum + worm castings + coffee grinds. Used Distilled water + distilled water coffee to cook to rice. Man, they are might be ripping through that stuff.

Wish me luck buddy.

If I fruit my jars before formation of truffles why would I harvest the stones before the fruits? Don't they need to be in the sub for a few months? Wouldn't taking them out before mean they would lose their potency? I have read different posts about harvesting stones in the bulk sub and then recasing for fruiting. Is there a good reason to do this? I would think its more hassle then its worth for a few less fruits compared to letting it fruit and harvesting stones after. Also, does it matter when I remove the stones if I want to use them to colonize at a later time? That's a lot, beg your pardon.

That's interesting.

My 5 trays of galindoi were spawned after 4 months in jar, they were harvested of sclerotia and dunked prior to spawning.

After 4 great flushes (they really like to keep growing!) I went through the substrate and didn't find a single stone

Hey man, just case and fruit them as soon as possible, stones will form through out the whole process, infact the mushrooms will grow directly off the stones, at some point.

Once they aren't fruiting so well or anymore, than take the stones you can find out of the grains/brf and put the substrate back into your jars/tub to recolonize, case and repeat.

That doesn't work if you use a bulk substrate.

You're talking about fruiting them from grain, harvesting stones then recolonizing. If you use a bulk substrate instead of fruiting from the grain, this doesn't work.
