A house in my fathers neighborhood had tons of cactus so i went over this morning and asked if i could purchase a few cuttings. Instead the woman was generous enough to let me take as much as i wanted for free. & Then she demanded i come back for more after i dropped the rest off at home.
And as for the little fellow who happens to be really dehydrated and scabbed up. I was planning on planting the lower half tonight and cutting the top off to let it callus & root
Ps. Will my cactus root the way they are right now or do i need to cut them a special way to give them more room
Thanks

It looks like you have several species there. I'm no pro at ids but im getting a Myrtillocactus sp vibe from your second post.
Anyway those cactus are far from dead, maybe a bit dehydrated . As far as rooting you can root the pup as long as it is calloused and that goes the same with cuttings. However i have noticed that pups tend to root a lot slower than calloused Cuttings , IME anyway. Nice score , i Can not tell you if they are active from the pics .

The one with smaller spines is Cereus sp.
None are active. They will all root the way they are now just place it in dry soil and wait till you have roots. Then water and they will plump up once they have roots.

Does this look like it could be good 4 starting root systems, the plant is about 4 inches down and i placed it in the shade near the morning sun. Sould i water the cactus to help give it roots?
I beleive only one of them may be active. The woman had a pachanoi but her husband wouldnt give any away.
The cactus with large spines has red/ burgandy thorns near the top. Its a myrtillocactus , i just looked it up. Thank you. Im not sure about the others.

Do not water until it has roots , the cactus will rot. What I do is I lightly dampen the soil when roots just start to form to speed up development, however even this can lead to rot if not done correctly, I never try this with brisgesii. I usually root in bone dry soil, never damp unless there is already roots or it's an opuntia(prickly pear). Also make sure your soil drains well. As far as sun i dont know , i usually root non opuntia cactus in complete darkness or thick shade , i give it little to no sun.
