Let's say that you own a piece of land and you let people park there cars there for free. Then one day someone steps on a broken bottle that one of your other free parkers left there and now you are getting sued. Now, because you didn't charge any parking fees, you've lost money due to the fact that you had to pay property tax on that land that you are not making money from and now because someone was injured while on your property.
Do you think that's right.

Anyone who thinks rent is unearned income has both a screw loose and has never been a landlord.
The maintenance never ends, there's insurance, fuel, water, property taxes, advertising.
What is meant by "rent" in the context of Henry George's proposal only refers to the land value part of real estate. Maintenance, fuel, water, etc, fall under the category "improvements of the land", and the profits from improvements should not be taxed according to the Georgist proposal.

the property tax ('rent' tax) you'd pay would be less than the amount of money you'd get from people to park there. maintanence and liability would mean that you did deserve some compensation.
i'm not really clear on how this george plan would delineate how much could be taken as rent tax and how much would be left to the property 'owner'.

I think since this is a fairly new idea, we're still trying to grasp how the theory really works. I don't think the idea prevents a person who owns a parking lot from charging a fee for it's use.
I'm fairly certain the Georgist Proposal is just another term for geonomics, since every geonomics site I've looked at talks about Henry George, who made the Georgist Proposal (please correct me if I'm wrong Mushmaster). There's a lot of information on Geonomics on the web, like Geonomics: A summary for newcomers, which goes into a lot more detail.
