On dry vermiculite layers and micropore tape.

Hey Shroomerites! Once again I am back for advice.
This is my first time attempting to cultivate and I've decided to go with the WBS spawned to bulk method. I'm just about ready to sterilize and inoculate my jars this afternoon and I'm pumped up like a shotgun!
However, after much research, I've run in to some conflicting advice regarding contamination and GE (gas exchange?). Some people say if you use a 1/2" thick dry verm layer at the top of your jars then there is no need to cover the inoculation holes with micropore tape. Others disagree, but it seems to be personal preference. Opinions on this? I'm a little sketchy about contams since my LC got devoured by mold last week. (I've greatly refined my sterilization technique since then, but I digress.)
Also I was just wondering, because I have no idea what micropore tape is exactly, is this the stuff? I had it in my first aid kit. I can go get real micropore tape if this isn't it, but I already have a bag of vermiculite, so...

Much appreciation if anyone can shed some light on my ass!

Verm is only for BRF cakes.
Since we shake grains, this would mix the verm and contams it holds around in the jar.
You need a real filter for grains, such as polyfill, tyvek, or synthetic filter discs.
You will want to make silicone injection ports for inoculation, or you can also inoculate through a polyfill filter.

Are you mish-mashing 2 teks?
Grain jars don't have a layer of dry vermiculite... I believe. They use special lids with filters attached. Someone else is bound to chime in.
Good luck, keep reading.
Edit: thanks frank.

Argh, yeah! I guess I am mixing up different TEKs. I've been reading too many of them man, too many too many. A quick google search solved that riddle.
So, the silicone epoxy is to seal inoculation points and the filter is for a GE port, right? I have plenty of silicone, but do you think coffee filters would suffice for the GE port? I hate going to Wally World
Thanks guys. You are gentlemen and scholars.

Not epoxy.
Just silicone caulk.
You apply a thick bead to the hole and let it cure before using.
Then you can inoculate through the silicone, it will seal up as you remove the needle
Here is what mine look like.

Awesome, that explains everything. Thank you so much. I was pretty bummed out after my LC got murdered the other day, but I'm pretty confident I'll get this one right.

LC is a pain in the ass, it's a piss-poor choice for beginners.
Agar though, that is beginner-friendly.
Invest in some agar if you are serious about stepping up into the big leagues. It's only a couple extra steps to prepare and you will learn where your problems are coming in from very quickly.
