Hi everyone,
I am a beginner, and this is my very first post. I have found some interesting flora growing in a local plastic container, which is believed to have grown from an unverified printing source. Just wanted to check the vailidity and species of this finding before proceeding. If you could please help me out with an identification I would be very grateful.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Cheers,
s0m3ju4n.
Where does it grow? in a local plastic container What does it grow on? rye grain and coir Gills: very dark brown Color: white stem, golden cap Stem:50-60mm in length, up to 10mm in width, soft and spongey texture, hollow. Cap: Ranging from 20-50mm, golden in color, soft and spongey texture Spore print color: red/purple, although originally taken from a black print...? Bruising: Blue.Very blue.

P.S. How do you get a more substantial print?

They're Psilocybe cubensis!
If you leave the cap sitting for longer the print will be thicker.

Thank you very much TimmiT.
DCart - what does PF mean? Are the red/purple spores a problem?
Any ideas why the original print was black but these are making red/purple prints?
Joust - why are they interesting cubes? Is there something wrong with them?
TimmiT - what do you mean by 'that colour is a reflection of skin'?
Sorry for the total noob questions, I'm still trying to learn all the lingo.
Cheers.

Printing on different media will produce prints of different colors. Never seen anyone use cigarette packaging before but that would certainly account for the lighter shade of chocolate purple (highly reflective surface = lighter color). In the future try to always take prints on white paper for psilocybe species. Printing on purple paper, for instance, would yield a noticeably red/brown print instead of a chocolaty purple one, which can make the difference with a specimen of questionable identity. Fortunately there is no doubt about the ID on those! Ps. cubensis. Also, note the smell of the fresh cubes for future reference. It's a smell you will never forget and has applicability for IDing other species of psilocybe as well (but not infallibly so). Happy Shrooming!

PF redspore is a 'strain' of cubensis that produce redspores.
If you put PF redspore in the search function, other members' grows should come back as results.

Thank you Lysergic_Milkman. I can see how that picture looks like cigarette packaging, however it is just aluminium foil. I used foil because I saw it used in a few teks I read. So for ID-ing use paper, but for making prints for syringes use foil?
Thank you for getting back to me DCart. I don't think these spores were red as much as they were purple. Perhaps the red is just due to the shine of the foil? I'm guessing a purple print is what is sought after?

huh, it looks just like cig packaging to me lol. Yes for IDing use paper. foil is preferred because it is easier to ensure a sterile print. Paper can hold onto all sorts of contaminants that are not easily killed. Not purple, Chocolate Purple; a small distinction, but necessary.

They're interesting because they're fatter than my weiner. They just look strange for cubes.
They look healthy, man. Good job.
