multi-spore and isolated strain
    #18713500 - 08/16/13 08:04 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Ok so I feel like I'm far enough along now and I still have one big ass elephant in the room of a question.

What is with multispore and isolated strains?  How can the spores of one single cap have different strains in it?  And why is isolating a piece of a stem on agar such a better idea?  I've had no problem with multispore LC so far, but it could just be beginners luck idn.

Two spores germinate and mate, forming a "strain" or single set of genetics.

This will behave in the same way every time. If it is a great fruiter, you will know that it will be a great fruiter every time (if stored properly).

When you use spores, each pair forms another strain. A single drop of MS solution contains many thousands of spores, so you have almost unlimited possible combinations.

Many of these strains are weak, poor fruiting bullshit you don't want to worry about with commercial and large-scale grows.

Even though they do come from a "parent" cap, the genetics of the spores are pretty darn random.  That is to say, you can take a crappy fruiting isolate and get spores, and end up with 10 amazing new strains found from  the resulting work.

Yes, you can bump my old threads with a question.
Here is how I get things done.
You should take a look. :hehehe:

Dude no homo I can not express enough the gratitude I have for the knowledge I have gotten from you Frank.  I'm too nervous to post pics but I have three tubs going now following your tek, and they are quite wonderful.

But about the actual question, how many times can you transfer a clipping to agar and keep the whole cycle going once these tubs fruit?
