Going to start my first ever monotub soon.
    #18711218 - 08/15/13 08:20 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

So I've had varied results with cakes and wanted to step it up to a mono.
I will be buying a tub from 50quarts to 60 give or take, and will be using horse manure and stra, with rye berries to spawn with.  I'm gonna make it just like a standard mono but it will be in my closet with a small desktop fan in pointed not directly at it but on low for more air flow on a 12 12 schedule. I'm hoping to get a yield of at least 4 oz , doesn't sound unreasonable.

Before I start this is there any advice or pointers anybody wld like to contribute? I'd appreciate any help big or small.

I'm pretty sure pasteurized horse poo shld not stink up the room I'm having it in but I'm not sure .

I've put the hpoo away till I get the bugs and kinks worked out of my growing skills.  Coir allows a lot more room for error which you will most likely have trying bulk for the first time.  Easier on the moisture content, easier on contams, easier on an error in pasteurization...etc..etc.

Up to you though.... whatever is fun.... you can always do another if you fail.  My hpoo didn't smell bad at all.

A bit expensive but the largest clear tote I've found.  Great if you want a large SGFC that can easily do both trays and cakes.  If you decide to go all out on a SGFC, be sure to get coarse perlite.  It keeps it cleaner and allows better FAE and humidity.

ive never done a poo grow myself but if you do its best to use paddy poo... aged and from the field.

If you decide you can use a straw\verm\coir mix, or a verm\coir mix.

Thanks a lot man, I've tried using straight coir on things such as pie tins and I'm pretty sure it failed due to poor sanitary precautions. It's time I'm cleaning everything before hand and made sure its all pasteurized properly. Wish me luck.

Oh it's perfect poo to use but thanks for the pointer anyhow. I'm a bit nervous but I feel I can do it.

I'll be posting pics of the setup soon as soon as I get the cash to buy the supplies.

Is it better to have a deeper bin or a wider one, I was thinking wide for the larger surface area, jw if there's a difference in the two or not.

4oz total over a few flushes sure.

A few tips
Closets r trich traps
Fan 24/7 as closets suck dick
Door will prob have to always be open for fruiting.
Must be precise with pasteurization, if not buy HMC compost prepasteurized and flush huge. Link in my sig I love it. It will go 7 large flushes easy

For 4 oz per flush flush I'd say a total of 40qts sub will do using ms.
Defiantly line your tub b4 spawning.
Do maybe 4 smaller tubs instead of 1 big one to lower chance of loosing everything to contam.
Stack Em on milk crates then each other or somthing like that

Don't use straw. Doesn't help, n adds high risk of contam

I'm actually getting it from HMC and the idea of two maybe three smaller tubs doesn't sound like a bad idea. I'm gonna have it fanned quite often since its in a closet and every so often as much as possible  ill have the window open with the closet doors open for more FAE.  Wld say two 30 quart tubs create just as much yield as one large 60 quart wld?

Buy the 66 qt clear sterlite bin with latching lid from Walmart. They work the best. I think they are $8. For your first mono I would definitely recommend coir/verm for substrate. Throw in some gypsum too if you want. I do 5 qts grain spawn to 1 brick of coir and 2 qts of verm. Works great for me. Check out the grow along thread that tbagtag is doing. That would be very helpful for you. All you got to do is follow the steps. You'd be a week or 2 behind but no big deal. Good luck

Is there a sponsor that sells prepasturized coir and verm in bulk quantities? I'm unaware of one. I do not have the space nor proper stove top as of now to pasteurize myself.

No need to properly pasteurize coir/verm sub. Damon5050s bucket Tek works just fine for it. Some tc actually claim with a nice high spawn ratio you don't have to pasteurize coir/verm at all. I do the bucket Tek and have had no problems with it. I'll bump that grow along thread so you can check it out. Gimme a sec

I'd stick with HMC. Ur next grow prob wont be for a while and HMC just keeps flushing and flushing and flushing and when u think its done it keeps flushing then after months it gets contamed and u throw it out side then it rains and it keeps on flushing lol

I'm not sure. The Tek calls for a bucket with a lid that seals and straying from a Tek is asking for trouble imo. You can get a bucket with a lid at Lowes or HD for a few bucks

Wow, just saw its $35 for a 10lb bag. How many quarts do you get out of one?

I may need to go into the compost business.

Yea of course I can get a bucket almost anywhere just wondering if its necessary. If I do that route ill def stick to the tek.

It's actually not bad, I'm sure others will disagree stating that its so cheaper to just make it up yourself and what not, but for those who can't or just don't want to its a decent price.

HMC can get expensive especially doing large grows. due to shipping all bags separately like a dick

I just did around 150lbs for $400 I think the guy will give u a discount if u order alot n email hi tell him ur from shroomery and what not.

Small grows its def worth it just bcuz it pays for itself in flushes.
I got around 2 lbs total over a 6 flushes from 3bags of compost I did in 2 100qt tubs. Only used fucking 4qts spawn in each tub
Alot of people who have never used it will say don't waste your money on it only bcuz they have never seen it go 8 flushes for themselfs

N u get a shroomery discount
Mm
