Good idea with the curtain. When making the holes if u have a propane torch it's really easy to get perfect circles out of a soup can just preheat it red hot on the stove n then use Ur torch to keep it hot while u make Ur holes.

Thx, it's mildew resistant too so I'm sure that will prove useful. Sounds perfect but I do not own a blow torch. I was gonna use a soup can for sizing tho lol. I own a drill but it died, so ill probably end up borrowing one from somebody.

Well I mean you can prob use a grill lighter but it will take longer. Bcuz the plastic cools the can so much.
And idk if mildew resistant anything is good in this hobby that usually means use of a fungicide which will harm the mycelium aswell but I'm not sure.

i dont see that as being an issue, even tho the claim is "mildew resistant" ive had curtains with that claim b4 and it still always get mildew. its sorta a bull claim.

I remember a few weeks back when someone freaked out about the can catching fire or some shit. It was epic.

i bet. ill probably just heat up an ice pick and poke it in four spots and then use an exacto knife to cut an arc from each hole to make a circle. unless you guys got easier ideas which im sure you do lol.

The soup can isn't going to get hot enough to burn. Your melting holes in plastic, not branding cattle or torturing someone....

Finally got my monotub setup, in around 5 days ill knock up a bunch of rye berry bags with Cambodian strain. And will be using a manure based substrate.
Tubs set up basically just like this,

Cannot wait to get this baby up and running, and def using poly since I got a bunch of recommendations for it and none for micropore tape lol.

Yea u might be able to use another top hole on the long sides but idk I'd wait for someone more knowledgable in that area. But you can always regulate air flow by adjusting Ur poly, If it comes down to it.

Yea but its gonna be in a closet with a small fan running so I didn't want too much fresh air as it wld dry out. At least that's my logic. It shld be enough , we shall see. Gotta wait for the spawn to fully colonize and it'll be a go

was just gonna prep the tub by cleaning it out with a bleach water mix, i hear people saying to clean with warm dish soap water, is this a good idea? shloud i do both to be cautious?
is there anything that can reduce the amount of say mold spores that you can place in a closet to help fend off the spores so they never even come into contact?

So I have inoculated three 1lbs bags of rye with Cambodian multipores around 4-5 days ago. I'm just waiting for the bags to fully colonize and then I will mix it with the manure substrate in my monotub and hope for the best.
Is cleaning the tub with bleach/water mix good enough to prep it before I place in the sub and spawn??

Checked today and all three bags have some nice bright white growth. Looks very healthy and I'm excited, not long now till the monotub starts. I also finally have some pins on the cakes I've had goin for there third flush which I didn't even think was gonna happen. Small amount of pins but when your expecting nothing , anythings good. I'm so glad I didn't just toss them outside, like I was thinking of doin.

I'm new to rye berry grain as a spawn, I'm usually using a BRF mix. When your ready to mix in the spawn in with the sub what's the best way to spread it out? Wld grating it with a cheese grater work like with BRF or is crumbling it up by hand just as effective?

Shake them in the jar, and they separate. I don't think you want to use a cheese grater on whole grains. Then I'd layer out spawn and sub before mixing it up good!

There bags , so it'll be just that much easier to mash em up. I was just confused whether it was as simple as hand mashing or what, thx.

Thx, can't wait to get this thing rolling. I'm told rye colonizes faster than BRF so hopefully it isn't long till its be ready to mix

First monotub problems, ( less spawn per sub, bad?) [Re: Beanerwiener7]

So I checked on the three one pound bags of rye that I inoculated roughly two weeks ago and two of them are goin fantastic , prolly one third colonized. Tho one bag hasn't had any growth yet an appears to have allot of moisture inside, I squeezed the bag and sniffed the filter patch and it had a funny sweet smell to it. Tho there are no sighns of contams I'm aware it cld b a sighn of bacteria. Shld I wait it out before tossing it?
I'm upset cuz these were gonna b used for a monotub and if only two bags work out I will have a off ratio of spawn to sub. How wld I fix this if it turns out to be bacteria?
