What? Brugmansia specially cultivated to be non-toxic??
    #18709580 - 08/15/13 03:04 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

So, I've been looking to buy a Brugmansia plant to add to my entheogenic collection. Asides from the fact that in most nurseries, they confuse it with Datura, I keep hearing that the Brugs they're selling are not toxic, and harmless...
For example: I go to this big annual gardening exhibition, and spot some cheap Brugmansias. I ask the sellers: "Aren't those plants toxic and hallucinogenic...?" They respond: "No, no, no, these Brugmansias are a special non-toxic cultivation...if they were toxic, we'd be in jail now! They are a "tame" variation!" I tell them that I do want a toxic plant, for my personal collection, but they insisted that these are non toxic. Same thing again, in a local nursery recently.
There isn't such thing, obviously, right?

Perhaps they weren't comfortable with you referring to them as "hallucinogenic". I've never heard of any specially cultivated non toxic brugs. Generally it is not a smart idea to throw those kinds of words around. They may have gotten spooked, but who knows....maybe there is a non-active brugmansia.

I've been selling them in garden centers for 15 years and I've never heard of such a thing.

Yeah, perhaps they did get spooked, but I tried to make them see that I'm a collector, not..a person who lurks in forums like this... I assumed they'd just want to sell the plant. At least I know the truth now!
