Candy Caps?
    #18710605 - 08/15/13 06:21 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

I found a small collection of what appear to be a Lactarius species. They have a very pleasant aroma somewhat like maple syrup. I've read about some edible species of "candy caps", but also I've read of non edibles like Lactarius helvus/aquifluus.

Any ideas? If they are candy caps, I think I'll dry them and use them to accent different dishes!

Idk jack shit about Lactarius, other than they are fun to slice with a knife. :bongload: I wouldn't eat them... unless a TI really jumped on this. I feel like its gotta be a tough genus to work with, especially if you don't have a scope.

I will not consume unless I have sufficient information. The smell really is tantalizing!

I think Lactarius takes to mycorhizzal associations with a wide variety of plants, So I'm going to throw the spore prints into the garden.

Are you going to try to grow them? What are you going to use as a host? They were on the forest floor in a mixed bush and I have no idea what tree/plant species they were working with.
