Well a tap root is a root on plants that drives itself downwards into the soil with a tapered shape, but with Xerula species some of them have a distinct rooting rhizome that stays intact when you pull it out of the ground. It looks as if the mushroom has a root.

Ah see the one bottom left? That is a Xerula also with the "taproot" intact. Nice Chantrelle on the bottom right too! They're delish. :asianofapproval:

Awesome man! That's what we all love... to see someone's mind being blown by how awesome fungi are! I don't think you could re-plant them... it's not actually a root. You would however be able to make a culture of the mycelium, which is in essence the "root system" of fungi. The mushroom is the fruit body, or the thing which spreads DNA (spores).

awesome! yeah Im not into growing but thats always good to know. I learned some about mycelium. I like the youtube video that explains how it has no roots, leaves and spreads along the forest floor. I am not sure but doesnt the mycelium start growing because of the spores dropped and the conditioning? Im a little confused there.

Yep that's probably the one you posted originally, although you would most likely need microscopy to confirm that it is the same.

I find these things like the plague in Australia during the winter time! They give you the impression of a Giant Subaeruginosa hahahaha.

Im better at picking them now so i dont get to excited, but its always hilarious to take the noobies out and see them lose their shit to them, only to discover it is not a foot high sub. :P
