Malt Extraxt from Beer Supply Store - Which Type Is Best?

My local beer guy has at least six different grades - from light to dark. He says they're all the same in terms of sugar content and he's probably right. The darker the extract, however, the longer it has been roasted. So I figure the darker malt extracts contain more caramelized sugars. Caramelization does all sorts of stuff to different sugars, mostly breaking them down. So I figure the lightest stuff would be the best but I have no idea.
* Can anybody offer anything better than a half-assed guess like mine?
I'm just now getting back into working with agar and I plan on having fun culturing all kinds of stuff.
For some reason my azurescens (MS) won't grow on PDA, something I've read here from others. I made a real abortion job on a batch of oatmeal agar that the azurescens won't grow on either. I've got five plates of PDY I want to inoculate with azurescens but I'm not 100% sure it will grow on that, either.
The info here on wood lovers is sketchy and from what I've read azurescens like oatmeal agar. I'm pretty confident that when the rest of my junk arrives I'll be able to brew up just about any kind of agar there is. I want to give oatmeal another try. But again, I don't remember seeing anything that says oatmeal agar is a sure bet. So I've got a second question:
* Anybody know what type/s of agar are best for colonizing azurescens?
Any help greatly appreciated. So far I'm having mixed results with my outdoor azurescens beds. One is shot, the second borderline and the third looks beautiful.
I plan on mastering them.
Think I'll make separate post on the azurescens question.

Light malt or extra light malt extract is what you want. I pick mine up at www.out-grow.com for very cheap.

I use the lightest malt extract that is available at my local beer supply store.
Don't you have a post with the same agar questions directly above this?

I decided to make a separate post for the azurescens question. I'm not sure if MEA is the right for them. I have other stuff I want to play with but I really want to get growing azurescens outdoors down.
And thanks for the advice, it's greatly appreciated. Thanks to Tmethy too.

I wanted to get back to you and say thanks.
I just bought a one pound bag of ELME at the beer supplies store for $5.50.
And it turns out that the beer supplies store has all sorts of stuff that's also used in mycology at way better prices than online - and with no added shipping fees!

You always want lighter malts, they produce almost pure sugar with no adjuncts. Although adjuncts are nice when you're looking for taste; they are not what one wants when one's slanting cultures.

Did you happen to see any filter disks?? At beer supply store? I know, totally off topic.
I believe the lighter malt extract the better. Supposedly because then your agar is not so dark so you can clearly see different sectors.
Try a sawdust, wood pellet, or something of the sorts for the azures.

pure sugar?
there's many kinds of sugar in the malt. glucose, maltose, maltotriose there's also fructose, sucrose, and maltotetraose. maltose is the major component of wort made from malt.
adjuncts in brewing would be corn, rice, lactose, etc.. things that are not malt.
any color maly extract will do but you want the light stuff so you can see contaminants better
