Beginner Needs A Few Questions Answered On Growing Mushies
    #18709726 - 08/15/13 03:30 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Hey guys, so I've decided that in a few weeks I want to start growing my own supply of magic mushrooms. Until then I have been reading various teks out there for both beginners and more experienced mycologists. I just had a couple questions to ask about growing these mystical mushrooms that hopefully aren't too redundant. (I know everyone gets pissed when people post the same questions over and over)

1.) I understand that there must be a light source in the fruiting chamber so that the mycellium can grow into an actual mushroom, would LED lighting provide sufficient light or will I need to find another source? What would you recommend?

2.) Secondly, would anyone be able to guide me to a tek that they use which works successfully  and is relatively easy for a novice to understand?

Thanks guys, hope to hear from you soon.

i use LED lighting, and have no problems with it...

1: Some use LED, but 6500K CFL is recommended. Search for Blue Light Thread and you can read a lot about using LEDs.

2: Go for PF tek. Watch Let's Grow Mushrooms.

Light is not a main pinning trigger.

Jars/bags/tubs/trays should colonize @ room temperature getting ambient/indirect light.

Main pinning triggers are full colonization, FAE and Evaporation off of the substrate.

Light is a secondary pinning trigger. For tropical species temperature is not a pinning factor.

Light has been proven beneficial during all stages of mycellium growth. Mushrooms like mammals have a circadian rhythm.

You want ambient/indirect light(on a 12/12 schedule preferably) for colonization and consolidation.

You want direct/intense 6500K light on a 12/12 schedule for fruiting.

LED lighting works, but not as good as fluorescent.
