What kind of mushroom? Very, very dark coloured.

Habitat: I found them at the edge of a field that is used for cows. No trees or anything nearby; just grassland (some bits of it are marshy). It wasn't growing in dung or anything.. just out from a little sort of lump of grass and daisies and things.
Gills: I didn't get a pic of the spore print it didn't work completely but the edge of it did work and it's more or less pure black.
Stem: The stem, I would say, is about 6 - 7cm and very thin and quite flimsy. Just from holding them it bent and the head was hanging down.
Cap: The diameter is about 2cm, conical.
Spore print color: Black
Bruising: Didn't notice any bruising; it's very, very dark in colour.
Other information: It looks very sinister :\

Ok I got more pics. Please excuse the bit or two of rice inside one of them :S I put them in a bowl of rice to dry them and some of the rice was sticking to them and couldn't get all of it out! Also, the spore print thing didn't work and you can barely see it in the photo but it is black.

True! Well, according to the wikipedia article on Panaeolus papilionaceus, it doesn't grow in the UK. But it really does look like it. And it said if it ever did contain psilocybin it would be so neglegible that it wouldn't be practical to take it. See, I'm learning

I don't see how it wouldn't grow in the UK if it grows everywhere else on the globe. Its pretty widely distributed. Also, I don't think paps ever contain any psilocybin at all... I think there may have been misinformation/confusion about other active Panaeolus species at the time like cinctulus, bisporus, fimetaria, olivaceus, etc.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panaeolus_papilionaceus_var._papilionaceus
I guess it does say 'approximate' range, and there is also "Panaeolus papilionaceus var. parvisporus" (but looking at pics it didn't look that much like it but I'm a total noob anyway so I don't think that means much! :P)

You should throw it up on Mushroomobserver.com see what people think! Hell, maybe yours could be the first documented collection from the UK!
