Gettin Worried....
    #1869292 - 08/31/03 08:06 PM (20 years, 6 months ago)

Its been 4 days, and no growth whatsoever. Not even in my karo/water jar. But I know it sometimes take up to 2 or 3 weeks to see mycelium growth. Im just concerned 2 things. The first, my jars might be too dry. The vermiculite is shiny again. Does that mean its dried out? Another thing...my incubator now has a musty smell. I tracked the jars down that it was coming from, and placed them in a seperate area (just in case). I dont think im going to have much luck with this...

Followed the PF Tek exactly. I think I might of not been as clean as I should of, and I probably should of have added more water to my substrate. But hey, live and learn right?

4 days is nothing. Wait at least a week. The musty smell could indicate wet rot in the isolated jar. Does the substrate in that jar look too wet? Does the jar smell of old socks?

if you have a bacillus (wet spot) infection in a few, it is likely that u have it in all. Bacillus is hard to ID becuase u cant see it very easily. It does give off a foul odor thou, anywhere from stanky socks, to rotten crotch, to spoiled food. You can probably give up the jars that smell bad, cuz they obvoiusly have something in them besides substrate and spores/mycelium.
4 questions:
How and how long did u sterilize the jars?
Are the spores from a reputable source?
Did u sterilize the needle after each jar?
Are the holes in the tops of the jars covered to prevent introduction of airborne contams?
