We have had an unusual amount of rain and humidity this year that has encouraged mushroom growth up here like I have never seen here before and additionally mushrooms I have not seen before.
Can anyone help me pin down which mushrooms these are? I will post as much as I know and I can get any requested information as these are growing all over my darn property and have peaked my curiosity.
The seem to like to grow on the outer edge of the forest in the under brush. The undergrowth is semi sparse and consists of leafy small plants and some prickle bushes.
This is a photo of the first day I saw this mushroom.
 2 days later at night.
http:// The morning after.
 Mushrooms next to it.
Mushrooms next to it, 2 days later.
I will try to get some spore prints, I am new at this. The stems have a hallow bit in the center. Gills are white and beautiful. The mushroom smells like a mushroom!
Please ask and I will obtain the information for you, like I said Im pretty new to this mushroom picking thing and have stuck to only eating puffballs in the past.

I can't wait for them to start fruiting here! I'm determined to make a muscaria omelette this year, everyone who's tried them says they are one of the best tasting mushrooms!

They certainly look like they offer a good meal. Both substantial and aesthetically pleasing. They grow abundantly at the places where i visit, and would like to try eating but i would want to be absolutely certain there is no toxins remaining. And I'm not sure how I would know.

Depends on what you mean by 'toxins'. I consider psilocybin a dangerous toxin, however most people don't. A. muscaria doesn't contain any damaging chemicals in significant quantities, and I find muscimol rather pleasing. Boiling the mushrooms for several minutes would remove most of the 'toxins', but I'd eat them with their chemical composition intact, one medium cap would be just enough for a meal, and for a pleasant 'experience'.

Oops, i just assumed you were also eating them for their culinary value only, and hence boiling them in a change or 2 of water (not sure why i assumed that though). I'm not looking for any effect from any of the active chemicals that's all.

Well, I do want to eat them for their culinary value, but I don't mind small doses of muscimol, and would rather not boil the flesh before cooking. I do understand your concern tough, and I do believe that 10 minutes in boiling water would make them completely inert, psychoactivity and toxicity wise.

Ten minutes is more than enough if you use enough water.
They taste better without boiling, but are very good either way.

There are no other species which look anything like that in your area, so better photos are not needed.

For cell phone photos, those are really quite nice. The last few are composed very well. I would not parboil Amanita muscaria, it probably all but ruins the flavor.

No, its really quite good after parboiling. If you fry it in enough butter and add garlic.
At soma camp David Arora was feeding everyone a mystery mushroom. Everyone agreed that it was really good. Turned out to be parboiled Amanita muscaria.

Agreed. They are very tasty. Although I used Amanita muscaria var. persicina, which will soon be re-named to its own species. Quote:

Someone posted a video on youtube called "I ate Amanita muscaria with david arora" and it shows him parboiling and cooking them because on the foray they couldn't find any other "non-toxic" mushrooms.

Ok so here is a good shot with the root. Bruising appears to be yellow. As seen in the photo, spores are white from partial cap laying on the ground for a day.
I thought these were Amanita muscaria, even before I posted, but I really want to be sure before trying them.
Thanks.

Looks good to me. What's your recipe going to be? Are you more interested in the culinary aspect of the flavor or are you seeking the psycho/physioactive properties?

I'm interested in hearing about both. I've been patiently waiting for them to start popping up around us.

Well what do you want to hear? Besides a lot of "its awesome" in regards to both culinary and entheogenic properties. There is so much to discuss! Rich history behind the fly agaric.
