Have patience and keep looking, it's the only way. They are bound to be out there.

Well I heard they were rather particular about growing conditions so decided since I cannot keep a hardy house plant alive that growing would not be for me.
With regards to resurrecting old threads - I would agree except I cannot really find much that is all that helpful on Shroomery - not sure if thats me or this forum as I dont find the interface very easy to use.
I searched on identifying lib caps and the main thread is this one http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/2644234/fpart/all/vc/1 - however other than the first post the rest seem to be general comments on waiting for the season to start.
On that post only two of the links work still (well a third does but in polish so not a lot of help to me) and the information total is pretty low (erowid has a very breif descriptions and a few photos and the last link has some photos) and not that helpful to a noob as they look pretty similiar to most of the photos posted on this thread.
I have been searching for a few years and never found anything particular definitive on this site (or any other) to help a noob - hence my question. Apologies if that annoys you.

Hey I believe I've picked 3 species and they were in a damp field which has many crinkle pitches Tons of mushrooms there. Any of these lib caps? Majority have purple gills but I'm not sure Spore test in progress but likely purple brown

Ahhh do you think it's cause it's still around 17 Degrees celcius? It was raining a lot. And would you say liberty caps would grow in the area I found these mushrooms?

Wait for 10-7 C during night to be sure season is on.

Ok then, ill check tonight and also, those mushrooms I found today, would you say they are likely to be in the same fields as liberty caps? I found these at this huge field with a football pitch and two cricket pitches inside it.

Fungifriend: Those are not p. semilanceata. The first thing I noticed is that a few of the stalks were split. Semilanceata stalks do not split, crush, or snap in half. If you grab a semi by the stalk under the cap and pull, even the mycelium will come up out of the ground - the stalk will almost never break unless you are pulling some tough grass at the same time. Semi stalks are very sturdy - you can hold the stalk upright at the mycelium and and even a 10cm tall specimen won't flop over.
Semis look like bullets with sharp points when you are looking straight down at them, seriously.

I agree on the stalks but disagree with the cap shape you mentioned . I have seen caps in different shapes than the classic lib cap . I posted a link earlier today which shows different cap profiles recorded over the years .

Oh ok I see, thanks for helping by the way guys, and yeah I've seen pictures of Libs that look wider than usual other people have posted. Still does anyone know if Libs grow around the same areas as the mushrooms I posted? :P

Looking for Liberty Caps, found 2 or 3 of these the other day (I'm new at this)...habitat seemed right, mountainous sheep grazing area, pretty wet, wasn't growing on dung. Even though the heart jumped when I found them, from reading up on the characteristics, I wouldn't be too confident these are p. semilanceata - the pale colour even though wet; no bluish staining when crushed/damaged. Took a spore print, but it was too faint, difficult to say whether it was black, brown or purplish. The stem seems hollow, and certainly is strong enough to wrap around the finger. The gill colour appears darker than in the photo. The slimyness of the cap was noticeable. The only alternative I can come up with is Stropharia semiglobata. Any ideas?
