Had a look in NW Ireland yesterday, found 13 libs. These were all in fields on the way to a spot where I found hundreds last year, but last year's field hadn't a single mushroom in it. Don't think it's the right time of year yet, there weren't even many lookalike species.

It looks like they are beginning to slowly pop up but nothing worth convincing me to go out hunting yet.
When do we suspect things will be in their prime? Two, maybe three weeks from now?

Complete noob here, went for my first hunt in the Peak District today. I was wondering if you could give me some information on this, I found a lot of them and they always tended to be near sheep poo. As you can see the gills are purple but they tended to have rounded heads rather than the lib 'nipple'.

I also went into a beautiful wooded area and saw some Amanitas, which absolutely made my day! Left them alone though as they all looked a little rotten.

I hate to break it to you but I can confirm that what you have is most definitely not Psilocybe semilanceata. Don't give up though man, once you find them, you'll always be able to identify them pretty much all the time from then on in.

Thanks for the feedback man, had a great day nonetheless. Do you have any idea what species I've got there? I've seen them in another field before.

It comes round so quickly every year! A great excuse to breathe some clean air!
Had a blast last season, found my 1st major spot, hoping to find another this year. The weather system seemed a little more 'regular' this year round and looks like it has set us up for a nice season. It seems the season has begun in more northern parts of England, just waiting for the lower reaches of the country now. Good to see the thread as lively as ever!
Will be going on my first hunt very soon, may the mushies be plentiful
Good luck dudes

I think the season is late this year. Not enough late Summer rain and it's still warm and sunny down here. I'm going to keep an eye on some sites to see when it's going to start, but it's likely to be a few weeks, maybe even October. Still, time to check out the potential of new sites, especially those on common land.

After hearing of my friends finding upwards of 300 at the weekend, I decided to go a little trek myself yesterday. Found a couple hundred in 2 hours before the farmer started to round his sheep up. There was massive clusters I could see from distances of 10m away. T'is the season to be jolly =]

Itching for the first considerable "find" this season, my poor dog is almost lame with the miles of traipsing around in the past couple of weeks!! Still think it will be a couple of weeks round here (West Midlands)as the top soil is still rock hard, from past seasons seems to be a week or so after your heels sink into the soft earth enabling the beauties to push on through. But hey ho I will still mooch around sorry doggy!
-------------------- I laid in a field of green grass for four hours, going "My God, I love everything." The heavens parted, God looked down and rained gifts of forgiveness onto my being, healing me on every level, psychically, physically, emotionally. And I realized our true nature is spirit, not body, that we are eternal beings, and God's love is unconditional 'n' there's nothing we can ever do to change that. It is only our illusion that we are separate from God, or that we are alone. In fact the reality is we are one with God and He loves us.[/gradient]

Not liberty caps. Looks like one of the common inactive Panaeolus species, P. papilionaceus is my guess.
Keep looking in the same area though, liberty caps favour similar habitat.

Close-ish; look for the characteristic purple gills! Not libs unfortunately; keep looking.
