Although on slightly different note I did unintentionally run into a couple of Amanita Muscaria mushrooms earlier today at a park which in it's own way was pretty cool. Although sadly I don't know too much about them (when it comes to toxicity, dose, etc) so I think I'll just leave them be and not bother eating them . Still, I think it was a cool find
Yeah its still too warm & dry even here in the Peak District.. and DAMN I have always wanted to find a Fly Agaric!
I strangely seem to find them without looking for them . I spotted a couple of them last year around a tree outside the tech I went to but I didn't want to go up and pick them in such a crowded area. This time nobody was around so I was able to pick them, take a spore print (for me this is like collecting stamps ), etc.
From my experience I've found that they usually grow near trees, in short cut grass, and tend to be in public areas. Try visiting parks or going on popular nature walk (I won't recommend that you would take walks in forested areas, you're looking for open areas with sparse number of trees).

Last year they were probably the most frequently occurring mushroom, apart from Clitocybe nebularis. If there was one mushroom i could always be sure I'd find it's that. This year it's Amanita rubescens, but more so!

Look at my signature, I found those last year all in one spot! There was a lot more as well. I find that they tend to grow around birch trees in parks and golf courses.

Yeah I found a couple of huge ones near a birch tree a few years ago. And I wasn't even looking for them. I didn't pick any because I've never had the guts to eat them. They're supposed to be intense, and it's easy to get the dosage wrong. Caps are about 7 or 8 inches in diameter...

Anyone got any experience with these? How are they compared to liberty caps? I know they're completely different chemicals, but how does the trip differ?

You say it, the active compounds are different. Thus the effects are vastly different as well.

Yeah i always find them with Birch. Birch are good trees for finding mushrooms in general.

Had a look this morning for about 2 hours. Checked the same fields i found lots in 2 years ago and a few new fields. Had no luck though. I may have found 1 or 2 liberty caps but wasn't 100%. Going to wait another 2 weeks at least before i check again. There wasn't even many other mushrooms about... this is in Ireland
