Really awesome pics!! Such beautiful libs! I hadn't checked my spots for ages but went out yesterday and found 30 straddlers still about!

I took a quick walk in the hills today, in fact the same hills where I find my first caps of the season each year, around 300 metres altitude. I was surprised to see even one cap, but 15 minutes later and I'd found 30. The latest I've ever found them is around 10th December, so I must check again in a week or so. Good to see a few still being found elsewhere too.

I went on a late season hunt today, you just never know do you! I found these 45 odd bad boys, looking quite dry but definitely not shriveled.

There was one large mutha, the one on the end of the middle row. It was a bit tricky to pick because it was growing though a very spiky weed. But my favourite is the fella directly under the "y" of "Sports Personality" - nice pointy hood and petticoat markings
Anyway Merry Christmas all

My favorite is the one in the middle row with the tiny pointy cap and long stem near the middle to the left. Nice late finds

Hehe it's funny you mention that one because it caught my eye and I thought it's amazing how different some shrooms look, when not dried that is....
This season I came to the conclusion that whilst hunting first thing in the morning is awesome what with fog and lack of "pedestrians", some times it's easier when the sun has been out for a little while because wet libs hidden under wet grassy growths can be hard to spot

I wonder what Terence McKenna would have made of this. I'm sure he could have squeezed a 4 hour lecture out of this incredible discovery.
Nice to know people are still finding libs BTW. I've not been out looking for about 2 months. I only need about 3 or 4 good trips per year in Autumn/Winter and then I usually leave it alone 'til the next season. Seems to work better for me that way, and makes the first trip of the year such a magical event. Still got about 50 left so one more trip in a few weeks and then that's me until next year.
I don't think I've ever picked any this time of year. Is there a noticeable loss in potency or are they just as good as they are early in the season?

I found a further 20 libs yesterday. Numbers are steadily dwindling it seems, but with no deep frost here so far, I'm optimistic that I might find one or two more. I will take another look next week and post if I find any.

A quick walk yesterday, and I found just 4, 3 of which were sterile. I was hoping to find some after the winter solstice, then the snow came today, so I guess it's all over for me for this season. I walk in the hills all year so always keep my eyes open. Hope somebody's still finding them.

Thanks Mushroon. I'm lucky to have found a couple of hills in Wales that produce on one hill around 2 weeks before anywhere else I know. Then at the end of the season on the next hill there's the patch that keeps producing 2 weeks after anywhere else. This is a small south facing patch on a really steep slope- I think it's too steep for the frost or a little snow to settle on. Having said that, 18th December is the latest I've ever found them, around a week later than my previous latest I bet that there's still a few to be found close to the coast where it stays mild longer.

That steep hill of yours probably catches a lot more sunshine also keeping the temps up. Keep your eyes open for more, I would love to hear of someone finding a load on Christmas Day!

Yes it does act as a sun trap, and it's well sheltered from the worst of the north and east winds. I really think that micro climate and micro habitat makes all the difference at the start and end of the season. In last season's thread people were finding well into January. I don't expect to get back onto the hills until early January myself now, with all the family stuff happening over the next 2 weeks.

Sounds like you've got a couple of nice spots. I haven't found any fruitful places since moving to Leicestershire a few months ago. I guess I'll have to start the search again next year.

I'm not finding any more Libs here.
Magic Mushrooms are a perfect bet for Christmas thought. I have made a mushroom soup with cream and fried onion yesterday. I soaked mushrooms in cold water without crushing them. They re-hydrated and started looking like fresh ones again.
Had amazing time.
