Yep I can vouch for that too. There's a field down the road from me that I got a few hundred off last year. Checked it out earlier on in the week and got a few hundred and left loads of pins. Went back today and must have picked over 700. Seems like a late bloomer. Hope the cold holds off for a little while longer!

So I've been out the past few days with basically no avail, but found these today. By far the closest I've seen. If someone could give me a positive ID it would make my day!

They all look like libs to me, wait for a TI to confirm though.
Edit - Except maybe the 2nd from the right.

Joie said: That one is Paneolus acuminatus. C is a lib, two Panaeolus spp. and perhaps an Inocybe. B might at least show a little bruising, can you look out for that? They probably are sterile libs but other easy tests for the sake of diligence are whether you can peel the pellicle same as the libs and whether it turns out to leave a spore print.
Thanks, interesting! I will give B a test or two and see what happens.

I did a little testing (thanks for the other info, by the way, think I forgot to say in last post!). Couldn't get a separable pellicle off one when trying, but they are bone dry now so I guess it's too late to check that? I did split one to get a better shot of the gills, and a shot of the group to show how they look now when dried.
Couldn't see or make any bruising. Interesting.

Those gills look too light to be liberty caps, but maybe they were dried before spore production started.

possibly my last pick of the season, found over 2,000 in 90 minutes a few days ago.
decided to brew them all up with 2 friends, strongest longest and most intense trip we have ever experienced and will definitely be writing a trip report when i can get my head round what actually happened

Ok thanks. None of them seem to print, nothing, whereas pile C had some prints.
The gills looked closer to the cap colour when wet to me but agreed they seem to have dried whiter, if it's not just the flash.
So I guess something else and not (rareish?) sterile libs then. Interesting how many look so similar!

My guess is that they are libs and not sterile, it's just that they dried before much spore production started.
A microscope would be super helpful in cases like these!

Thanks, interesting!
Yes I can see from other threads it would be useful! I am tempted to get one now for next year's season. So many good things to see and my partner's enjoying it too so we may stick to it... My brother recommended an Android app with an offline mushroom database today too, which would be useful when out and about.

Hello guys and gals,
I did some more searching and found these high on the hills a couple of weeks ago (only just got round to posting a pic). I'm pretty confident this time

Gona head back out there tomorrow if I can get a confirmation!

Guys,
I am by no means a beginner now and have managed to find approx 800 libs or so this year, which should be enough to last me the year. However, I have always found them up on the moorlands throughout various parts of the yorkshire pennines and north york moors and have developed a kind of sense as to where they will be.
However, I was wondering, as I keep reading about how people have found them growing in normal fields, and not moorlands, how people know to spot accessible fields and not private lands. I know exactly what to look for for the kind of fields to look in its just, I see some potential spots on google maps, go and have a look and not really know whether I am allowed into the field or not. I want to find some decent fields as I think the right field could yield a more concentrated fruiting. How much freedom do we have with the 'right to roam' law?
I am not a seasoned walker and I am certainly as cautious as I can be whilst out picking and I think venturing into private land would be "pushing my luck" a bit!
Any tips? (I am not asking for spots, just good advice whilst out to know which fields are accessible.
thanks guys

Open Street Map For quick reference you can use this website alongside Google maps (open in another web browser tab) to see if your potential spots have public access (dotted lines are footpaths) Note the layers' tab at the side to change map interface, I find 'open cycle path' best as it has footpaths & contour lines
Viewranger Much the same as above but easier to toggle between google maps/open street map as they are all in one interface You have to setup a free account and can also download a free app onto your phone which is great to see where you've been/where your going... you can even set markers for newly found spots, you just need a smartphone with GPS, if it wasn't for this app id've been lost long ago! For planning ahead/checking for public access, you log in to the site then go to 'my view ranger' then 'create a route from scratch' then you can toggle between google maps/satellite images/maps with footpaths (be sure to make the map full screen for best effect)
Wheres The Path? This one is also quite good also although I still use Viewranger as I prefer whole screen not half/half

Ive found many like that cant post the pics phone wont let me but i did a foolish thing and saved 40 or so of the little buggers and had them tripped for 3 hours of trippy heaven. But they are identical with norm Libs without dark underneath which are dew to the spores being that dark colour also all ive found they peel away.
