Sorry, had no idea! Just seemed a shame for them to go to waste. Will read the rules more carefully...

Went for a trek up the Pentland Hills today (just outside of Edinburgh) and there was fungi growing everywhere! The hills I was hunting had highland cows grazing on them, and subsequently there were a lot of mushrooms growing out of the cow patties, would any of these have been active?
Found these weird orange mushrooms as well, anyone care to identify them?

-
Also found these Red Mushrooms..

-
Dried up puffball?

Fresh Puffball?

-
Are these Liberty Caps?

Also found these interesting:

A couple of those might be P. fimetaria. Did you spore print them all?

Nope, got them drying on PC case fan, but will sporeprint the large ones.
Looking at this thread for P.fimetaria http://www.shroomery.org/12504/Psilocybe-fimetaria it is very possible, as the hills I was searching on was littered in sheep and cow dung, alongside horse manure on the pathways.

Quite excited here myself and a buddy had to do a journey and long story short we were in the New Forest. We stopped at a place we found by sight and headed out for a quick gander.
Within 10 minutes we found active species.
Pretty sure we found Strictipes (sorry no photo's)
So they were growing in clusters of 10 or so and with many many other species of field mushrooms. It was wonderful, beautiful landscape and literally thousands of mushrooms everywhere.
Main question: Is the Psilocybe Semilanceata and Strictipes variant the only small brown mushroom in the UK with the gelitinous pelicle ?
If so then they were almost certainly strictipes because the mushroom dome was more domed and flat than conical. Still had striations like a lib. The mushrooms had the nipple and definitely had the gelitinous pellicle. They had similar colours to libs when fresh and dried specimens were beigh with the grey cap edge.
It was simply so nice just to literally dash out and find them with heads down within such a short time... so many species. Some of these suspected Strictipes were growing within a patch of other mushrooms (white coloured) So it seems mycelium was overlapping.
After checking Rogers Phillips book they looked slighty like they leaned towards Psilocybe Coprophila but I doubt they were these as they grew from the tight well grazed grass.
A great day and it is so nice to think there mushrooms are all over the place ! They are wonder to behold.

Kio, likely suspects are Aleuria aurantia, Hygrocybe coccinea, Bovista plumbea, Psilocybe semilanceata and maybe Conocybe pubescens. The final photo in your next post doesn't look to have the same texture as the liberty caps, might be Protostropharia semiglobata.

pumba, if you want to ID something to ingest try for better shots, because misidentification is not unlikely with a shot like that. I guess you have a Conocybe sp. there but that assumes the colours are off.

Thanks for all the help, still having problems getting them dried before they start to bleed and turn black.
Have them on a bit of tinfoil with a couple sachets of silica gel at the moment, however they have turned black and squishy.

Peziza species.

Hygrocybe species.

Dried up puffball?

Yes. Perhaps a lycoperdon species.

Fresh Puffball?

Well, about as fresh as the other one; note the dimple, it shows that its flesh has already turned into dry spores.

Perhaps a galerina or a conocybe species; I don't recognize them off the bat.

Popped to my local field quickly this afternoon only to find there were hundreds of the little buggers. I've only ever got about 50 from this place on my previous visits, this time I scored just under 450. Some nice big ones too.

I've had a massive problem with my second Peak District batch. I think there is a connection between very wet weather, also grazing animals might be connected to this problem. I also found that my first batch at beginning of season was bug free but the second one was bad. This year I have learned, that first Libs of the season are best quality and more potent.
