Good luck with moving out, don't burn bridges with your family because they're likely the only people who will help you out when you need it. And that means more than just utility

Who said I was broke? As far as chasing a dream, I've already caught it.

But I don't know anything about being on my own so I'm coming to you luverly bunch for advice.

I have about $14.00 cash.

But I do have a car worth a little bit of money (and it's legally mine - my grandpa got it for me in highschool).
Been looking around online and the trade in value is about $23k, and the private selling estimate was a bit more than 25k. I've never sold a car so I don't know if I'm likely toget that 25k or not though. But I got my motorcycle endorsement several months ago, so I figured I could get. 2-4k motorcycle and save a ton on insurance and gas.

I was also wondering, is the stuff they give me legally mine? Like if I get a laptop for my bday.. I'm not trying to screw them and just take everything I can. I just want to take my computer, phone, and some clothes.

I figure as long as my dad doesn't revoke my college fund or something I'll be able to make it just fine with a min wage job.. Especially if I can get a roomate.
Cheap apartment + pbjs every meal + motorcycle  should be good on min wage right?

Anyone with similar experience halp me?

Sounds about right.

The trick is to get a job as soon as you can, even if it's a minimum wage job. Nothing wrong with a minimum wage job as long as you're not still in it two years down the road.

Sell the car, but don't be in such a rush to sell it that you screw yourself over. If similar cars really are selling for around 23-25k, then yours should sell pretty near that price, too, given time. Selling it for "anything over 15k" would be nuts.

Splitting a place with a roommate saves tons of money, but only if the roommate isn't more trouble than he's worth. They tend to be, unfortunately, which is why no one lives with roommates for more than a few years if they can help it. Still, the money saved is huge, so put up with it for as long as you can.

Don't eat out, brew your own coffee and use a thermos (or reheat in microwave if your workplace has one), leave as much money in the bank as you can from the sale of your car and put something into the bank every paycheck. Aim for ten per cent of your take home pay as a minimum, but if on some paydays you can't put in the full ten per cent, at least put in something.

Closed Veil is right about the work attitude, though - if you always do everything you're asked and more, uncomplainingly and eagerly, and help out elsewhere without being asked, you won't be a minimum wage earner for long. Show up to work ten minutes early, always. Never come to work hungover or stoned. Don't call in sick unless you are well and truly too sick to work. That doesn't mean phone in sick if you are hungover or stoned, that means don't be hungover or stoned on a work day! If you have to work the next day, don't get smashed the night before.

One of the hardest things to get used to if you've never had a job before is showing up to work on time every day. That trips up a lot more people than you'd think. After a couple of months it gets easier.

But from your post, it seems you already knew all this stuff. You've just got to do it. You can, you know... millions of other people less capable than you manage to pull it off. No reason you can't, too.

OP, the first thing you need to do is determine a budget.

You have no job, haven't sold the car for cash, and I'm willing to guess you have no idea how much your expenses will be.

The first thing you need to do is start working, then sell the car, then start looking into places to live.

Fences staining decks houses interior and exterior, might even learn about drywall and wallpaper hanging to. Don't get me wrong the work is long and hard its no cakewalk but if you could get on a good painting crew you could make some serious money.

Bikes are good for gas, but as far as insurance goes stick with a car.

I've been riding a bike since I was 16 and my insurance is pretty ridiculous because I'm still only 20.

My car insurance is pretty high..
Looking around it seems most people don't even pay $1,000/yr for motorcycle insurance

I don't know the exact numbers for my car, but it's over $500 a month i know

 I wish I only had to pay $1k/year for insurance.

Insurance for my Ducati is $800/month for three months in the summer (snows where I live).

It has a lot to do with the type of the bike and the brand of the bike.

So if you do get a bike, make sure it's one you can easily find parts for and isn't a rocket if you want the lowest insurance possible.

insurance is high for your bike because u have full coverage and bike r easy to steal. I'm guessing u have full coverage because u have a loan on it. Basic coverage on a bike is dirt cheap because if u rear end someone you wont even leave a scratch. They don't do a lot of damage to other vehicles on impact so they are cheaper to insure. fact.
