A few newbie questions
    #18695087 - 08/12/13 11:16 AM (10 years, 8 months ago)

When do you know when your shrooms are ready to pick after you have birthed them in a terrarium with the perlite? I see some growth but do not want to pick until they are fully matured.

Also, what is pinning and is it required? I see a lot of users talking about "pinning" your cakes but i am unsure of what it means or how to do it? What does it do? Is it neccessary for shroom growth?

Any help is appreciated, again sorry for newb questions!

The general rule of thumb is to harvest shortly before the veil breaks.

With veil:

Pinning is when the mushrooms are small pins growing out of the cake. It is the cycle of life from the mushroom. If you have a shotgun fruiting chamber, you don't have to do anything except mist and fan. The mycelium will handle the rest. It is necessary and unavoidable if you are giving them the right conditions.

I'm sure if you search the forum you'll find better answers to your questions.

Thanks for the advice. I have the shotgun fruiting chamber so i guess i wont need to pin. How often should i fan+mist? I have been doing it about 5 times a day.

Just mist and fan for like 30 sec. The fanning is not meant to dry the misting. It's just to change the air so the co2 escapes.

Fan 3 times and mist 3 times. Dont even have to do both at the same time if you want.

Thanks again. I had the impression that the fanning was to dry the mist! This helped alot, i will only fan for 30 secs now!
