Burry your contaminated tubs!

Just felt like sharing this. So I sloppily pasteurized and spawned a hpoo/coir/verm monotub and it wound up contaminated with the green mean before it even colonized. I was bummed and I dug it a grave under my trampoline. A few weeks later and I go outside to find this!
If I hadn't buried this I would have gotten nothing so I highly suggest burying even the most trich ridden substrate.

Great! I got one contaminated cake, and I will now definitely go and bury it in the lawn. What was the source of contamination in this case?

3 out of 4 of my cakes are on their 3rd and possibly final flush. Ill bury them as soon as they are spent to see what they do. Probably wont do a damn thing. But its worth a try.

Well, I pasteurized at way too high of a tempurature and my sterile procedures sucked big time. It was part of my first grow and lazyness was the real cause of my contams. Actually just had to burry my first successful tub today. I got 22 grams dry (16 grams after a sample ) from it so hopefully I can make it to an ounce just from burying it.

That's exactly what I thought, but even my squishy, trich infested, shit smelling, pile of horse shit kicked out a few mushrooms and it looks like many more are on their way!

I also find this takes away some of the "tragedy" of tossing contaminated substrates. They are not under your care anymore but you still might have a chance at a harvest, which separates failure from success! Oh, and just a helpful tip that might be overlooked. If you have a company now your lawn, make sure they won't now your shrooms! That's why they're under my trampoline. Haha.

I barely covered it at all, it's almost like a casing layer. If you have very nutritive soil then maybe you could burry it deeper, but I'm burying in dirt that is pretty much clay so I can't imagine it colonizing very well. I'll experiment with how deep I bury it in the future. Another thing you can try is covering it with extra hpoo or coir you have. Like if you over-pasteurize it or something.

I cannot stress dried grass clippings enough to cover and bury with, water well.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I went to check on the mushrooms I saw growing and the veil had broke yet they are so small! It made me wonder if they are even cubes. They bruise blue, they smell like cubes and they look like cubes but they are tiny! Here's a pic for reference.

Do cubes grow naturally in your area? I'm in a relatively dry part of California, so I am not so sure this would work.

All the ones I get are small like that, but if you get a hand full a day they add up quick. Christmas every day

As far as poisonous mushrooms go, cubensis is probably safer than half of the ones that pop up naturally in your backyard.

Alright, that was all reassuring. And no, they do not grow here unfortunately, but it is summer so I figured a few might sprout up. They also bruise very very blue and have that cubie smell if you know what i mean . I just munched them for the first time last night instead of tea so the smell is still stuck with me. Oh, and they feel very dense. I kinda forgot to water them so I think that's why they're so small.

Great thread. I am inspired to do something with the jars I pitch rather than just toss them in a pile. With all the squirrels in my backyard I suppose they will get whatever grain I throw back there if I do not bury it.
