I'll get off my ass and get you one soon Cap. They are about the easiest guys I have ever played with. They are so forgiving. These are on fir. I have done a mix of fir/oak and just oak. They don't seem to care much. Maybe a bit of a color shift but that is about it.

this is my first attempt at reishi. after recieving a wedge, i inoculated a bag.
after it colonized, i mixed it with pellets and than i divided and put substrate in 2 bags. i left it fruiting in the bag at first, but now i moved it to sgfc.

How long after it's fully colonized and you cut your holes do you usually have to wait to start seeing primordia on those turkey tails?
Mine have been sitting for a while doing nothing...

Somewhere right around 30 days from inoc to hole slitting. They won't poke through for another week or so.

I let it get pretty well colonized in the bag (several days at least after full colonization) and cut holes and put in the GH about, ehhh... at least a week, maybe as long as 2 weeks ago? I never take good notes.

Yeah I never take good notes either. No growth around the X's at all?

Just checked again to make sure, no growth at all.
I did small holes instead of x's, but I don't think it's drying out... could that make enough difference? I've got a brand new humidifier in there keeping things pretty humid. And only cut maybe 6 holes total on a 10lb block.

I usually do about 30 holes on a five pound block. Not sure if it is right or wrong but it works for me. So when you say small holes, are you talking circles of plastic removed or just a poke hole? My x's are fairly small, not much more than 3/8 X 3/8 of an inch.

Yeah we're talking circles (ovals) 1/2" high by 1" wide approx?
I mist every morning to avoid drying out, but don't ask me why I did holes instead of x's

It should still work. I am surprised you haven't had anything pop yet.
The only reason I have settled on the small x's is for ease of harvest. It had nothing to do with getting them to fruit. As you can see from the post above they seem to be perfectly happy fruiting out of an open top.

Yeah I wasn't too worried, it's probably just the size of the substrate, needing some extra time to digest. I just keep seeing all these nice pictures and I want some damn turkey tails!

That sounds like a good plan, I think I'll go with that next time! I always do bigger substrates, cause my bags are the extra large size, and I just think they sometimes need more consolidation time.
Jeff those are awesome looking. I can't wait...
