I've just vanished without a trace
I'm going to a pretty place now where the flowers grow
I'll be back in an hour or so

Ps. semilanceata almost always grow near dense grass in fields and more often in pastures, although they dont grow on dung. try to break the cap open so the gill surface touches the paper and take a spore print. otherwise get a detailed description like in the faq because we cant do much to help you, and from what i know Ps. semilanceata doesnt have any very close look alikes.

Unless this patch of dirt was a pasture with grass in it, it's probably not Psilocybe semilanceata. I'll also note that they're not very common in New York, they are a mushroom that is much more common in the Pacific Northwest.

Lucky you. One thing: I really don't want to be a jerk here, but make sure you are 100% sure of the identification before you eat a mushroom. Every year there are new cases of mushroom poisoning around, and this isn't just a mild tummy ache either in many cases. Very often it results in permanent liver damage or failure, and even death. But you were probably aware of that, no?
