Where to obtain tyvek filters...

I read a post here before saying that you can get the USPS to ship you tyvek envelopes for free before. I went to the USPS website and was unable to find such a service. Can anyone link me to the deal?

http://shop.usps.com/cgi-bin/vsbv/postal_store_non_ssl/home.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&appName=SSOL Go there and look around and make an account and search for tyvek or you'll just find it by accident. -Mr.Sleep

Mr Magash, while we're on the subject of tyvek .... is 1 layer enough when filtering a 1/2 pint jar with 4 holes in the top?

Thanks Magash, it's so thin I almost doubled it, but though that was going too far. They were rubbed with alcohol before use too.
A fresh garbage bag was used for a glove box ... now that's glad!

has anyone ever considered house wrap? Tyvek is used for this purpose and if you have any carpender friends then a piece big enough for 100 jars is easy to come by. For those who aren't familiar, house wrap is the stuff you put over plywood or partical board house sheathing to keep the moisture and mold out before siding. Comes in hugh rolls. of course envelopes are free too. just thinking I'm not the only one with ties to the home building industry.

Is there any difference between the house wrap & free envelopes?
trash bag glovebox - - spray air well with oust or other sanitizer - wipe surfaces with alcohol liberaly - lay fresh clear or near clear trash bag on table - put your jars & stuff in the bag - wipe your hands & arms and then contents with alcohol - with only your arms in the bag ... do your bizness - use the bag for your garbage and pause to fantasize about that glad cutie hugging a bounty of shrooms to her naked bosom.

You get the same results with housewrap.

No offence, but tyvek "sucks"!! I recently started some jars using polyfill and decided to try tyvek on one of them. Yesterday I cased the jars with polyfill, the jar with tyvek isn't even 30% colonized yet!

i also feel tyvex leads to slow colonization, suceptability to bacterial contamination, due to poor air exchange, ive lost whole generations of mycelium simply because they cant breathe. but then i double-tyvexed them. even so, a REAL micron filter is way better.

Could anyone tell me how big the holes would be in an ideal filter? It seems to me that there is a bit of a compromise between blocking out foreign spores and allowing good enough air exchange.
The reason for asking is that I'm a chemistry student, and we have all kinds of filter papers in the labs (I've seen down to 0.1 microns, we might even have smaller!), so I could probably find a type that would be perfect, but I have no idea what I'm looking for . I did a search to find out how big contam. spores generally were, but found nothing very useful, and if I use a filter with tiny little holes to block out everything it might just make the air go stale and nasty.
Cheers for any help you can give guys. I really want my first grow to go well!
