found this growing out of a bag that used to contain some mushrooms that was thrown in the woods, what are the chances this will actually produce some useable shrooms?

I dunno fi thats mold or mycellum... I cant really tell. If you want you should transport that mycellum (if it is infact mycellum) to some jars with sterilized wild bird seed in them, colonize the jars, then case em! See what happens. Or you can just dig a hole about 1/2 foot down into the earth throw the bag in the hole then put some dung/straw/ and a little lime on top then cross your fingers and wait!

Is that white stuff dry and hairy? If it is, it's possibly a cocoon as it is made by some insects for their eggs...

that is not likely even mycelium. in the future you should avoid even thinking about eating anything you can not identify. if you're cinvinced that it's some kind of mycelium, you might try culturing it on agar and attempting to inoculate different substrated for outdoor growth; but, it will not likely yeild any conclusive results.

There is zero chance of that "producing usable shrooms".
I'm moving this to the contamination forum.
