Will it just take a bit longer for the mycelium to fully colonize the jars?

Yes.

This leaves a larger window for contamination or the substrate drying out, but a lot of people use full pints with success. Good luck!

Personally, I found that larger jars produce more problems than smaller ones. I've had contaminations and stalled growth in large jars more than in small jars. But that doesn't mean it can't be done with large jars, not at all. I'm just not that lucky, that's all

Good luck with pints (patience is a virtue), if you're a novice I would suggest half pints. Then you may be able to move to quarts and ziplock GTG transfers, or so my dawg says

Do you think so? But you can dunk a cake in its original jar, can't you?

Should you still fill the jar up with substrate to nearly the top with the full pint? it's all my friend could get.

newbie in need of some help here

Yes, It's the same. Fill the jars up to within a half inch of the top with substrate and then add a layer of dry vermiculite. You will just have a longer incubation time.

Also, you can still dunk a pint cake. The procedure is the same.

Good Luck!
