Quick newbie question here for anyone willing to answer. Why do you have to pasteurize the gypsum, coir, vermiculite mixture? Why can't you just use a PC or autoclave instead?

A PC is the most common way people pasteurize their substrates here.

Only because the PC is the largest pot most people have. You can pasteurize in any pot large enough to hold the jars, bags, etc You don't want to actually PC the sub if your intent is to pasteurize, though there is some debate as of late as to whether sterilization is bad if your sub is simple coir, verm and gypsum. Substrates with ingredients like hpoo, straw, or coffee should always be pasteurized.

Ahh yes, i have heard that sometimes when sterilizing coir the good bacteria is also killed along with any bad bacteria.. hmm..

So currently that one lil' pin has gotten slightly bigger and more pin-like, and the other hyphal knots are still lookin' like hyphal knots.
Anyways right now i don't want to really change anything until i see something is wrong.. i've got loose poly for the top holes and really tight poly in the bottom holes. My question is, what will be the signs that i should look for that tell me to change something?

Keep an eye on the moisture rings around your poly like the absence of moisture there then you will know you have proper FAE

Well currently i have little to no condensation on the walls. Does that mean i need more poly?
The substrate is still glistening, btw.

Lurked on this thread a bit, and asked this question 100 times and always gotten different answers. Do you guys case your cubes? Also I just spawned 3 more tubs the other day after getting my last mold disaster cleared out, take some pics later and show yous guys. . Oh and I built this box, the gloves get here tomorrow: Cant see it in this pic (it may not have been in yet) but I added in a filtered air exchange port for the pressure from the attached gloves. And this other pic is how the new seal is going to be. Basically a square on top that fits inside 2 squares on the bottom if you feel me. EDIT: Here are my 3 tubs. Really cannot tell them apart. Spawned em...4 and 3 days ago. 7 jars to one brick of coir, 3 qts verm, 5.5 qts H20, 1 cup gypsum. Also had my elderly father take my deck off the house. YAY PARENTS. From the days I was destroying his house, now he destroys mine, lovely...

Not sure I know I always like to see a good bit of condensation do you have a fan blowing right at the tub? Did you take the time to dial in your tub?

Can you fit more than one bag in it? Or do you use jars?

NICE! I am looking for ways to do more substrate at a time. My 2 cheapo wally world pcs only fit one bag, and they have some miles on em. Saw RR's 55 gal drum steamer, gave me ideas.

Woke up this morning to my first broken veil.
Question, how long before that fatty drop spores? I always see pics with the caps wide open but this veil actually broke while the cap is still folded over probably 50%.

Why would spores be bad? I thought it's more a case of the thing stopped producing the chemicals i want when the veil broke, but i'm also after yield. And would like a nice pick of the cap fully open.
Anyway it was growing sideways over perlite from a pocorn cake, so spores would probably just soil the perlite, which i can live with :-)

Just personal preference but if you're going for yield I would pick before the spores drop no use in going further

I just really like how they look when the veil has just broke they are at the height of production then after that they go into reproduction no loss or gain of actives just a gain in yield
