    #1865411 - 08/30/03 12:34 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

It rained a lot last night and I found 3 different types of shrooms

This first one was in the lawn near some wood.

Im gonna go take more

Host: I've heard whispers about the financial support your government receives from the drug industry.
Peruvian: Well, the irony of this, of course, is that this money, which is in the billions, is coming from your country. You see, you are the major purchaser of our national product, which is of course cocaine.
Host: On one hand, you're saying the United States government is spending millions of dollars to eliminate the flow of drugs onto our streets. At the same time, we are doing business with the very same goverment that is flooding our streets with cocaine.
Peruvian: Mmm-hmm, si, si. Let me show you a few other characters that are involved in this tragic comedy.

Those lil ones growing on the stub (top most photo of second post) look like coprinus micaceus to me.

_IF_ my id is right, no, it doesn't say it is edible in my guide. But in general, mushrooms of the coprinus genus aren't that much of a delicatesse, so I wouldn't bother.

coprinus micaceus is listed as not edible. The only coprinus that's interesting is coprinus comatus (common inkycap). It's quite common and edible, but shoulnd't be consumed when alcohol has been/is taken.

Looks like you are finding Coprinus (Inky Cap) mushrooms.
-A few different species.

Nothing of much interest.

I was thinking maybe it was Amanitopsis vaginita but the stems are too thin, So maybe Pluteus cervinus. I figured that, because you said they were found by wood and is the most common of the genus Pluteus, and can be found all over. Check the gills, are they pinkish?

Those look like to be all Coprinus species. Nothing of value. I wouldn't recommend eating them, consuming alcohol in a seven day period after eating the mushrooms can really give you a bad time.

The caps look so delicate. The Inky caps that I find are so sturdy and thick. Also they decay so quickly when they open.
Opened and decaying Coprinus atramentarius.

Cross section of a young one.

Just picked unopened.
I was thinking the ones you have there might be some Mycena's? Just a try.

He has some different Coprinus species in there. Notice the brown capped ones are very oval shape when young? Thats one characteristic which holds true with Coprinus species.

The top ones Ive found growing quite abundantly in lawns and other ground.

Ok. I have only seen two kinds of Coprinus. The one above and the micaceus. I will have to keep my eyes open for more of them!
