cool mist humidifier problem

I have cakes in my growing chamber that's hooked up to a cool mist humidifier. My hydrometer says it's only going upto 80% humidity and the cakes are very dry. Is it because i need an ultrasonic humidifier??? I read in shroomgod's humidifier tek that a cool mist would work very well but when i looked at it, it was just this pad that absorbed water and a fan right on top of it, there was no mist coming our or anything so i was a bit skeptical of it but i went along with it cuz the tek said it would work. I also have perlite in it and i constantly add more water to it, however the humidity doesn't go above 80%. what should i do? any help would be appreciated, thanx.

A cool mist humidifier should deffinatly work. In fact, from what I understand, its supposed to work better than an ultrasonic. How good is your hygrometer? Some of they only go up to 80%!

My pit bulls understanding was that a CMH was mainly to help with air exchange. They use perlite in all three terrariums hooked up to the CMH.

Hmm... what brand is your CMH? i use a vicks and it just seems to me like it's blowing out air. My hydrometer is working well and before i hooked it up to the CMH it used to be at high all the time. I'm not even getting droplets of water on the sides of my growing chamber... maybe it's broken... i just don't understand how it works tho cuz all it really is is a little wet foam pad and a fan on top of it and it's supposed to humidify a whole room? o well, i'll try to figure something out. thanx for the input.

My kitten doesn't have water droplets on the side of her chamber either and all that seems to happen is humid air blowing out...
Is there supposed to be water droplets? *worry*

If your kitten is doing casings there is no need for high hummidity, but cakes on the other hand need lots of hummidity ( water dropplets ).
Put your coolmist on a timmer 2hours on 2hours off, this will let the hummidity build up!

Put the cool mist on a timer and use it for air exchange and use perlite as the main way to humidify.
Here is a pic of a old set up like that.

Aww, this sucks. My kitten thought she was free from the perlite madness and thought that the coolmist would work for humidity as well. Her guage right now is way above 90 for humidity with the coolmist...she isn't sure she wants to go back to perlite. grrr..

Ok, I have and answer for that. Run a cool mist 24/7 and use a ultrasonic to ad humidity every few hours.
Here's a pic of a set up like that.
