mayan/ aztek calander, the number 3

i read here somwhere that the end of the mayan or aztek calander was all 3's. despite reading a enormous amount of posts in search of this information i have not yet located it. can someone help me out here?

The Mayan Calander ends on the Gregorian calender at the date December 21, 2012. 12/21/2012. 1 + 2, 3. 2 + 1, 3. 2 + 0 + 1, 3. But then all you have left is the 2. Ah well.
