if we chose the time in which we would live.
    #1862161 - 08/29/03 10:44 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

i do firmly believe that if i was allowed to chose the time in which i was born in, be it from the begining of man to the end of man. i would choose to live my life so that i would see the end of it all, at the peak of my life.
if such is true then i/we only have a few years to go being that im 20 and expect to peak around 30/35.

just a thought. ...

has anyone else come up with this train of thought?

"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

"People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."

I think that would be a great time to live.  Another time I would have liked to live was when everything was a mystery, new and exiting.  Make up my own religion or something while tripping on mush.

So, when will life end? Will there be some point that everything living in existance will finally die out? Universal terms, by the way...

And it depends on your definiton of living, too, I guess. What characteristics make us living? Breath? Chemical functions? Brain activity?

Or does living refer to the fact that we have Energy flowing through us?
Peace.

in the past:

the wild west

in the future:

whatever point in time personal interstellar spaceships are cheap and readily available.

Can you imagine waking up on a space ship every day?  With a kitchen, full bar, and warp drive?  Checkin out nebulas up close while your trippin off some fungus you grew in the glove compartment?  Smokin weed that you scored from the jamaican space station in orbit around planet ganja in your cockpit?

like a winnebago in the sky...

To be honest, I don't think I could ever be satisfied with having to live in any one time. With nothing to compare it to, I think we will always focus on the negatives without realizing what we have here & now.

What I'd really like is to be able to travel freely between times. I would check out ancient egypt, then see if atlantis really existed. Then travel to the future, to witness the point where Utopia finally reaches planet earth (assuming it ever happens). Then to witness the point when a huge meteor strikes the planet, reducing it to dust.

It is not unreasonable to entertain the possibility that you are wishing for what has already been granted to you, friend.

I think it would be totally radical to have a bigass starship like DocJ was talking about. I think the ability to travel great distances is really fascinating, and being able to travel to other planets sounds very fucking cool.

But I think I would also dig living back in the day when most of humanity was in the hunter-gatherer stage. I'm all about the native americans. I'd like to be in a Sioux tribe and just kick it with the medicine man all the time.

Yes. All that is real is this moment. The past is just a memory and the future is just an expectation.

Let me clarify.

Everything is an illusion.

Especially Time itself.

Clarify? Not really? Ahh...

Most people never realize that when they are dreaming, that it is just a dream.. (unless they do realize it, of course, and then they have the possibilty of doing whatever they wish... think about it. hehe).

There is NOTHING that we experience that actually confirms our existance. Explain to me ONE thing. We are just energy being flown through some structure designed to impress upon the energy some sort of information, some experiences...
Peace.

Well, people tend to consider things from their own, individual perspective too much.. Keeping a bizarrely open mind and having the mind to understand it all certainly helps..

And, to answer the orginial question of this, there's no time like the NOW. hehe

Being a musician back in the 60's would have been interesting, I think, but I also intrigued with what I will do in these years and the effect it will have as seen from years later... Interesting times, these.
Peace.

Ok.  Now I don't want to sound like I'm disagreeing with you guys.  Because I'm not, fully. I have had many conscious dreams, and it seems alot of the time they do feel MORE realistic than 'normal' waking life.  Which I find pretty interesting. It does in a way make sense that most things can be considered an 'illusion' ...But, still, I don't see how time and space and everything we experience can just be labeled as..not real.

"There is NOTHING that we experience that actually confirms our existance"

How can this be true?  Does the fact that you wrote that sentence not confirm your existence?

Yes it seems everything is simply energy being thrown around in something we happen to call time and space..My point is.. I am here..I can feel..I can see..I can love..I am experiencing..As I'm getting older, progressing forward through 'history' ..everything is here right in front of us! ...I mean.. There must be SOME form of authenticity to this 'illusion' we are experiencing.. Is there not?

Exactly. I think therefore I am. The fact of our own existence is the only think we CAN be sure of.

There is a lot of authenticity to this illusion we are experiencing. If you have ever thought or felt something through your senses, than it is real.

The thing is, is that I no longer recoginze what makes me who I am and what is around me as The Truth, so to speak. Even if it is an illusion, it is still an illusion that is cast, thereby making it real, right? I recognize that this illusion is just a small part in a vast system that composes all that is Real.

Every part of this system is real, even if just an illusion cast, even if boundaries are set at a certain time to keep people from realizing what is out there without the capability to understand it, it is still real.

In the interest of Time, I guess that Time is just a progression through different points in a line, to make it simple. It is only our minds and the system that we are currently in that make a fluid and continous transition through all these moments..

If you have ever had days where time doesn't seem to exist, or that it goes by way too quickly, I think you will sort of see what I mean.. the passage of time is basically at the mercy of our mind, our own subjective view.

Subjectiveness is an important concept, I think... Two people in a room having the same experience in their surroundings will end up experiencing it as totally different, based on the way that the input is treated by their subconsious, the thoughts that sort of wrap around it, and how it is judged based on prior input and thought patterns...

So, I guess the issue isn't really if something is Real or not, but rather, why it is real and what makes it real, or what makes anything real...
Peace.

Well, people tend to consider things from their own, individual perspective too much..

Actually, everyone, no exceptions, considers things from their own, individual perspective. Even when embracing empathy, you're still only making a guess at how others perceive existence.

Energy being flown through the grand structure...thats beautiful man. I dig that. : )

Peace.
