Nah, they slapped up a hastily made sign after the plant had already been demolished.

We haven't bombed anything but SAM batteries and C&C installations.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the confirmation.

Gee.... who'd have ever thought Alpo would exaggerate!

And the two passes the F16's made at a solitary goatherder in a deserted valley? I guess he must've been carrying a sam battery.

His wife and kids didn't think so tho...

So Alpo.... let's sum up....

1 alleged goatherder.
1 factory
A bunch of missle sites
divided by 12 years
equals 1 major Alpoization.

You're right, we were only there to test our new goat-seeking missile.

Alex always throws out some singular example to make his argument. Apparently if one goatherder is killed, they all were.

I doubt even one was. It would be pretty hard to hit a goat herder from a super-sonic aircraft. Was there a spec-ops team on the ground to relay the GPS coordinates of the shephard in question, or paint his goats with a laser? How well do goats even reflect lasers?

An A-10, now, is a goat herders worst nightmare. It'd look like a Greek BBQ down there after a couple of passes by a Warthog.

Alex always throws out some singular example

Here's another 23 singular examples...

A soccer field at Tel A'fer was bombed at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19. Our Voices in the Wilderness delegation currently in Iraq traveled yesterday [June 21] to Mosul and Tel A'fer, intent on interviewing survivors of the bombing, relatives of victims, and witnesses.

The Voices in the Wilderness team arrived at noon on Thursday, June 21. They were continuing our five year effort to communicate the stories and experiences of ordinary people in Iraq as they endure the effects of sanctions and bombardment.

Here are grim details from a telephone conversation with our team members following their visit to Tel Afer:

The team spent two hours at the soccer field. They said the site was strewn with large pieces of bomb debris, two pieces of which bore English writing with serial numbers and dates.

Doctors at the Tel A'fer General Hospital told them that of the 23 people who died, 21 were under age 17. Initially there were 12 injured survivors, all but one of whom are under 17 years of age.

Three were referred to the Mosul General Hospital, and of those three, one has already died. At the Tel A'fer General hospital, delegation members met nine boys who suffered blast injuries and were in wretched condition, with deep lacerations and burns.

Ahmed Shakur, age 13, suffered deep lacerations to his scapula and buttocks. He has lost hearing in his left ear. His younger brother, Ali, was killed. His 39 year old brother, Fatha, was with him. They said they didn?t think the American people would do this and asked, "Why has this happened here? Why us? Why now?"

Omar Hamid Hosain was visibly in pain. He was already handicapped from polio and suffered a fractured pelvis, a fractured fibula, and had shell fragments in his leg.

One of the women doctors said that most of the victims were related to each other and lived near each other. Four of the five boys interviewed by the team had each lost a brother in the bombing.

Taha Naif Hosain, 12 years old, lost his two brothers, Hamid Naif Hosain and Abbas Naif Hosain. Taha had full burns across his body, his hair was singed and his face was swollen so that one of his eyes was half shut. He had a fractured fibula and tibia.

At a briefing on Wednesday, June 20 2001, White House spokesperson Mr. Ari Fleischer suggested that reporters ask the Iraqi government about responsibility for the killing.

U.S. and British warplanes attacked sites in northern Iraq Aug. 15. This followed heavy bombardment in southern Iraq Aug. 10-12. The air strikes killed two civilians and injured more than 20 others. They also destroyed a train station, several homes and a food rations storage and distribution facility that warehoused food allowed into Iraq under the United Nations oil-for-food program.

The Pentagon claimed the jets were targeting anti-aircraft artillery sites.

In almost daily bombing raids, U.S./British maneuvers have killed over 200 Iraqi civilians and wounded more than 800 since December 1998. At that time, a torrent of Pentagon bombs rained on Iraq for four straight days.

The two imperialist powers claim to be enforcing so-called "no-flight zones," which they imposed on Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War. Baghdad has protested the no-flight zones, pointing out that the unilateral constraints violate Iraqi sovereignty. The zones cover most of the northern and southern portions of the country, restricting Iraqis from flying over two- thirds of their own air space.

The latest bombings by the United States and Britain occurred in these zones: in the city of Samawa, 175 miles south of Baghdad; and near Mosul, 250 miles to the northeast of the Iraqi capital.

The Iraqi Air Defense Command reported in July that more than 21,600 U.S. and British warplanes have flown into Iraq's air space since December 1998. An average of one bombing or missile attack occurs every three days; Pentagon bombs kill an average of one civilian every other day.

The Pentagon admits to flying over 280,000 sorties since imposing the "no-flight zones."

Were those civilians proximate to a military installation?

I quit reading after that. Think your source is a bit slanted? At any rate, the bombings in the no fly zones did not have a significant effect on the economy or infrastructure of Iraq as you tried to say.

Don't you think it's a trifle obscene bombing a country back into the stone age and then making a killing rebuilding bits of it?

please refer to the "broken window" fallacy

the thing is that americans are NOT going to "make a killing" rebuilding iraq. it'll cost us billions. a few corporations are going to strike it rich (using one with strong ties to the vice president seems just a tad... stupid... if nothing else), but it's gonna cost american taxpayers.

We had this out a little earlier in the thread. Yes, I don't expect Bush to pile all the profits from rebuilding Iraq into black ghettos and the environment.

Of COURSE only a few corporations are going to make a killing. What else is new?
