Headspaces
    #1861865 - 08/29/03 07:40 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Just doing some thinking last night, when I approached some sort of altered consciousness, completely sober, with nothing to alter it but my own thoughts..

Our thoughts seem to add commentary to what our senses are pulling in, and either just aid in absorbing these experiences, aim to understand them more, or drag us somewhere else, thinking about other things than what is happening right then..

It is like, each day we have a blank sheet of paper. Every thought has its own colour, and they end up painting a picture that is inspired by our experiences, surroundings, our reactions to them, our insights, etc. Also, what colours we use this day seems to effect our colours the next day, and over time, we seem to develop a narrowed down pallete that we use (unless we, of course, set out to use as many colours as possible, hehe).

Each painting adds to the art exhibit that is us, and each colour that we use has a very important effect on the art we create...

And, hell, sometimes we use to many colours at once, and create quite a mess of the paper we are using.. Over time, the whole sheet of paper starts out each day with a mess of colours already on it, they have been built up, and this has a direct consequence on what we can do with our painting...

I myself am starting to work to a state where I keep a white background which I can slowly paint the picture using just the right collection of colours to make a more majestic and "perfect" painting...

Yeah.
Peace.

Also, to continue the analogy, I believe that what our surroundings are, basically all of our input, it obviously has a direct effect on what we paint...

I mean, you can only paint what you know, so to speak..
Peace.

Sounds like a helpful and accurate analogy to me man. Its all about gaining control, or awareness of, as many of the natural processes as possible. Then you can choose which of them you want to affect you and in what way you want them to affect you.

To paint, you must master the use of painting tools, to Live, you must master the use of Living tools.

Peace.

Acrylic definately.

I love the clarity of the paint and vibrancy of the color.

Hmm... I'd prefer to use ALL of the available options, why limit us to acryllic if there is also oil-based, water paints, stains, crayons, colored pencils, caveman paint?

Keep as broad of an experience as we can here, most definitely...

Hmm indeed. A safe opinion as always.

Anyone here into surrealism? Got a favorite artist?

I really like this analogy!
Just a thought..For certain individuals, it seems logical this 'paper' could probably be made up differently daily, as in it's shape & texture..This would definetly affect the 'look' of the finished product. I guess it all depends on the state of mind your in, before you even get a grip on your paint brush. It may also be ok to assume that the original features of your paper could be altered due to certain events during the day, or "painting session". I guess the idea would be to keep your paper smooth and organized, rather than rough and crumply.

Good point, man. It seems that everything that occurs has some sort of effect on our art..
Peace.

i just want to have a neverending piece of paper and just paint stuff on it whenever i feel the need at any point in my life so i can look at it and see how i have changed through the paintings. It would be one big continuous painting with everything merging into everything else...jsut one huge painting of whatever-the-fuck.

Our thoughts seem to add commentary to what our senses are pulling in, and either just aid in absorbing these experiences, aim to understand them more, or drag us somewhere else, thinking about other things than what is happening right then..

The danger lies in the fact that when we invest enough time filling in the information gap by painting an incorrect picture in our minds, that when more information comes in that clearly shows our previous analysis to be erroneous, we frequently fail to let go of our long-held picture of how we thought things were as it would be an affront to our ego.

The proof is in the pudding.

Yeah, some people love to live in this picture of pardise that they have painted and has no real merit in what is actually going on.. ahh, delusion..

Holding onto any idea at all when something new replaces it or proves it wrong is pretty dumb... We see what we are to see when we are suspossed to see it, and people get too attached to the past...
Peace.

Anyone here into surrealism? Got a favorite artist?

I am. My favorite is myself, but I like Dali and Wayne Douglas Barlowe a lot.
