Students ill from synthetic cannabis
    #18618597 - 07/27/13 06:30 AM (10 years, 9 months ago)

A Kapiti College pupil has been expelled after two 14-year-old girls who took synthetic cannabis were found lying semi-conscious near the school.

The two year 10 girls were found by the college guidance counsellor on July 4. When he managed to rouse them, one was violently ill, acting principal Andy Pook said.

"Who knows what would have happened if the counsellor had not come across them by chance . . . they would not have been in full view of anybody."

Two 16-year-old boys were with the girls, as was an amount of synthetic cannabis, labelled Everest, which the boys appeared to have taken with no ill-effects.

One of the boys, who said he got the drug from a skateboard park, has been expelled.

The other pupils have had to do jobs around the school during the holidays, and have been referred to drug counselling.

They have also written warnings to their fellow pupils in a newsletter circulated on the last day of term, on July 12. "They did not pull any punches about being really sick," Mr Pook said. "We wanted the whole school community to know these things are really bad. They may be legal, but this was quite a shock . . . for the parents as well."

One of the boys said he was so worried one of the girls would swallow her tongue or vomit that he put her in the recovery position.

One of the girls said she could not control parts of her body. "It was not a good experience," she wrote.

The Psychoactive Substances Act, which came into force on July 18, bans the sale of psychoactive products from diaries, convenience stores, grocery stores, supermarkets, service stations and liquor outlets. No-one under 18 is allowed to buy them. KAY BLUNDELL

Yes, the 2013 psychoactive substances law bans the sale of psychoactive products from all of those listed places.

This is article 9:

Quote:

Meaning of psychoactive substance
9 Meaning of psychoactive substance

    (1) In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires, psychoactive substance means a substance, mixture, preparation, article, device, or thing that is capable of inducing a psychoactive effect (by any means) in an individual who uses the psychoactive substance.

However, section 9.3(g) clarifies the definition with respect to alcohol, stating:

Quote:

(3) Despite subsections (1) and (2), psychoactive substance does not include—

...

(g) any alcohol, unless the alcohol contains a psychoactive substance as defined in subsection (1) or (2) that is not alcohol:

Oh I believed it did, I was just being sarcastic about the exemption of alcohol as a psychoactive substance.

Yes, because it totally has the only excusable psychoactive effect out of all imaginable compounds

I figured as much. Basically the law is designed as a catch-all for untaxed products.

This stuff is terrible.

When it came out I was like "this is great.... its legal and I can smoke this and still pass drug tests" the stuff almost ruined my life.

At first I didn't get that high... pretty much same as weed, mabye a little speedier. Then I got addicted to it and I found the strongest brands. I wasn't physically addicted but I was very very depressed when I didn't have any. Then I started loosing my mind. Extreme paranoia, loss of appetite, weight loss, insomnia. The buzz lasted about 10 minutes and I would smoke 20-30 pipes of this stuff every day. I smoked my last pipe of it about 2 years ago and I look back on that part of my life with disgust. Irreparable damage has been done to relationships in my life and I lost alot of respect for myself.

Research chems have no data and nobody really knows the long term effects. I can say this with certainty, long term heavy use of this stuff had a terrible effect on my mind and body.

Hey AmongUs, my brother is addicted to this stuff.  Just like what you described.  He started out with smoking it after work, and he now smokes it constantly.  He quit a while back, and hallucinated and had insomnia for two weeks.  After losing his mind for a couple of weeks, he started hitting the pipe again.  This stuff is crap.  It reminds me of huffing.

"Psilocybin is one of the most active, and least toxic of all psychedelics.  It could very well be the most perfect psychedelic!

No complex chemicals, special equipment or knowledge of chemistry is needed to grow psilocybin mushrooms at home.  Given the spores, all that is needed to grow them is a little bit of grain, some chalk, a pressure cooker and a few mason jars.

With these simple supplies, growing your own organic trips at home is about as difficult as a seventh-grade science fair project"

Full CB1 agonist, with no tickling of CB2, and no action from other cannabinoids or terpenes to balance things out....and this is what happens.

Nature has that shit down though :yesnod: ...
