Here are Enoki, Lion's mane and shiitake with this exact technique.

I will try it with a (possible) wild ganoderma tsugae as soon as I'm finished with putting them in test tubes. I can't wait to grow this one.
Enoki worked on this substrate 1 time on 2, the second time they did not fruited and I got bored... They were just making a shitload of aerial mycelium. Trashed.
Lion's mane 2 on 2 very aggressively both times. Fruiting in vitro soon after full colonisation.
Beech mushroom 0 on 2, they colonise it but doesn't fruit. I suspect bad fruiting parameter, not substrate problem.
Shiitake 2 on 2 and soon a third experiment to make sure I like this "shiitake tek" enough.
So far, very nice modification for this easy substrate.

Shroom jitsu, I have been watching your tek, and really like it. I am personally doing one differently but in jars, and also doing grain to bags. My way most probably will not be able to do. I do wood working as a hobby, so I have an electric planer, and a unlimited supply of fresh saw dust. My cakes were done 4 cups verm, 4 cups fresh oak sawdust, 2 cups brf and 1 dumping of used coffee grounds(7 scoops). I did oyster, shiitake, and cambodian. They all have taken off, fully colonized and ready to birth. The berry's to bags had 50/50 sawdust to verm, light gypsum, and brf. I will post the results of the jars when I birth them. So far looking good, and your tek gave me the idea, with plenty of time I'm just trying new ways. Will post soon...

This substrate work pretty well so far with my possible Ganoderma tsugae (wild quebec clone). I still need to confirm it's ID.
I will post a pic once I fruit it :P

i still working with this tek. today i make a modification, maybe could me interesting for someone. i make a jar entire filled with sawdust, with a single layer of grain at the top, and inoculate with agar. the mycelium colonize the grain at first and then take the sawdust. some grains in the sawdust phase could help , a idea for the next time.

It's a good idea. The only problem I see with it is that plain grains are sensible to contamination when you put the substrate in the fruiting chamber.
You could do the exact same but like this one:
top view:
xxxxxxxx xoooox xoooox xxxxxxxx
Side view:
xoooox xoooox xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx
x = sawdust o = grains
*Grains are less exposed to the outside of the substrate this way. You could then recover it with a casing layer if you fruit Agrocybe Aegerita for exemple.

Beautiful grow log. One of my fave species to grow
-------------------- Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

So after a long break (moved states, back to school, new job, raising kids, etc) I've decided to pull my dusty old shottys out of storage and jump back into the hobby head first.
I plan on doing this grow again using one of the old shiitake cultures I preserved in the preservation TEK here:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15062411
The two preserved tissue samples I have are well over a year old now (the third fell and shattered). They look healthy still, shiny, white, no discoloration. The one that shattered felt healthy and had no offensive odor to it or anything to indicate it wasn't still viable. Hopefully the ones I have left will produce.
I'll be starting a new log for it soon with any luck. Sorry for the absence and any questions that may have gone unanswered. I'll be check back regularly if any one has any or wants to post more of their variations here. I love seeing this TEK used on other species, so thanks to everyone who's posted back results!

Great read...I just started something similar... While waiting for my filter bags to arrive I wanted to do a quick grow. I used "how frank gets shit done" thread "How to prepare saw dust from wood pellets" tek.
Recipe is... 5C Fuel Pellets (I used oak) 1/2C Wheat Bran 4T Gypsum 6C Water
I used this recipe to fill 7 pint jars and then topped them off with a 1/4" of dry vermiculite. I PC'd for 90 min. and inoculated with pearl oyster, maitake, beech and lions mane.
Although I only hold out hope for pearl oyster and lions mane. I feel like it will be interesting to see what happens with the maitake and beech.
(I cooked some store bought beech mushrooms today and noticed on the bottom there was sawdust and millet)
If any one has any comments on my MOP I would love to hear em.
