Any Experience with TC?
    #1859811 - 08/28/03 04:37 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

Hey, My friend just started some 1/2pint brf jars of TC. It's his first attempt with this strain. Anyone have any experience with this strain? fast or slow to colonize? fast or slow to fruit? Jars have been in the inubator for 4 days now, he's gonna wait till 7 days are up and check on em. Any input from folks with experience with this strain appreciated...

I was told that TC,GC,Arcadia coast and Florida strains are really all the same which makes sense because they are all from the Gulf Coast area. I couldnt tell the difference between Arcadia or Treasure Coast

I would totally have to disagree, with my experiences with the strains. I can tell the difference between all 3. Treasure Coast mushrooms grow a much lighter color when mature than the others. Caps will sometimes have a whitish-grey/silver look to them when dry (covering the whole, as opposed to the common whitening of the edges on most Cubensis). While the GC's, and AC's stay much darker caramel colored. I also believe the Treasure Coast the most capable of the three to grow very large. And also, the Acadian Coast strain is the weakest strain I have ever tried (I was even eating them wet, then dry another time). I do not think it was me, or the batch, but it has been verified by others. I usually never get into the potency debate between strains, but I must mention that. The Gulf Coast strain does not look like either to me. They were all grown on the same bulk substrate I have been using for awhile.

Watching them from pins to printing many times has allowed me to come to these conclusions. Everybody has different growing conditions, and therefore their mushrooms should not be expected to look anything like their neighbors mushrooms (just go to the grow log and look up a strain, and see the variations). Strains of Cubensis can look very similar; in fact I have had quite a few of one, look just like one of a totally different strain. They can and will vary in appearance, especially when substrates, temperatures, and RH levels are varied. While these strains are very similar, they each have an independent characteristic which is evidence to me that they are different strains.

The Treasure Coast is my pet strain (but not my favorite); I wish it were more stable. There is no way you could ever convince me it is similar to (or same as) the others.  :noway:
