24 PF style cakes B+/EQ/GT with harvest Porn pics!! EQ birthed, questions! -First grow =)
    #18590334 - 07/21/13 03:24 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Hello Shroomery, decided to make my first post today after all the knowledge my fellow teachers have shared with me led me to such a great start in my first grow log, with hopefully many more!

I inoculated 8 brf cakes (without gypsum) on 7/2 with B+ strain

Fully colonized by 7/14 and gave them 6 days for consolidation for the 4 slower ones and 7 days for the 4 quicker ones.

Dunked for a full 24h in tap water in a clean pot with tinfoil over it in my fridge. Then rolled in clean dry verm and added a spoonful of damp verm ontop.

Here's a pic of them in the sgfc with plenty of damp perlite and 5000k light (couldnt find 6500k :/) I have the temp in my room up to 70 with the baseboard heat and have a fan pointing into my closet where this is held on medium. I usually keep the heat off but in the day I like to turn it up a bit when its chilly (WA Weather)

I also inoculated 8 brf cakes (with gypsum this time!) On 7/8 with Ecuadorian strain and they are just now coming to full colonization =)

Here's some pictures of them:

Slowest 1 of my fastest 4

Slowest one out of all of them:

I'll probably start consolidating the first 4 tomorrow 7/22 and the last 4 hopefully by 7/24. Already have another sgfc built, I just need to make 8 more half pints and inoculate with GT when I find some time!

I'll keep this updated as much as possible thanks for reading give me some tips!

7/22

Myc poking through my rolled verm  Hope to see some black lil pins here soon! I believe I see a bunch of white knotting myc so that's wonderful. I decided to rotate my SGFC 180 degrees so the part that was toward the wall (few inches away still) could get some more fae!

Update on my 8 EQ jars: 2 of the slowest colonizers have less than a dime size to get through on the bottom, so I'm going to start the week consolidation on all 8 of them. Cant wait to birth more cakes!

Another update: Sterilized 8 more jars, will be inoculating with GT tomorrow before work! =)

7/25
We have pins!!

Cake #1 Small but promising

Cake #3 More small ones :P

Cake #7 with the biggest shrooms and pinning =) There's about 9 pins on this guy getting bigger all the time!

Let me know how I'm doing! Today I kept the baseboard heater in my bedroom on 70 and it gets a lil warmrer from the sun but not much it was cool out. It's my closet but I leave the door open and it had the light on all day and misted a little before I went to work for 8 hours, I think the drying it out for long periods is helpin it pin a little better, but I needed to turn on the heat because its been chilly in my house.

7/26

Look at how big these pins are getting on my best cake!!!

Currently all the cakes besides 2 have little pins on them, I'm trying to mist as little as possible but 3 - 4 times a day they still get some water, lots of FAE from me fanning every 1.5h the last couple days and 12/12 light with 5000k bulb.
I also finally found some time and inoculated my 8 jars of GT today!

Here's a bit of my sterile technique I made the entire inside of my closet sterile by cleaning it out and lining with plastic..and when I inoculate I just spray down the room, shut off fan and the window in my room, shower and brush my teeth, put on long sleeved shirt with long rubber gloves over it and alcohol wipe my gloves, my needle and the tops of my jars, and put into a tub facing downward with the lid open so i can fit my hands under it...not the best but it's been working for me :P. I also have alsohol in a shot glass for a lamp to sterilize my needle with.

7/26
Another update! I rewet my perlite today and just set my cakes back in the terrarium and took some pics.

As you can see the biggest shroom is looking pretty good, along with that whole cake. In the second picture it shows one of the pins on a different cake that is kinda small and has white on it...hopefully itll get bigger? I have pins on all but 2 cakes still and those ones seem to have turned a bit blue, is that from under misting?? Or drying out?  I feel like the rewet perlite will help my flush and I'm going to be keeping the fan off in my room from now on hah

7/27

Here was yesterdays update that I never got around to posting...this was right after the veil on my biggest shroom broke.

7/28

I later got home from work and found the caps to be a bit more flattened out (for printing) and all the other shrooms veils had broken, so it was first ever harvest for me last night!!

Here's from the top before harvest

Side pic (kinda bad)

End dry weight for my first cakes first flush was 36g wet, with that monster shroom being 22g itself!

I'll be birthing my 8 Ecuadorian cakes tomorrow and putting them in my second sgfc! No signs of myc germ in my GT cakes yet :P

Update 8/1

Been a while since I've updated this, as the results have been great and I wanted a pretty good post

First 8th is dry and going to be trippin tomorrow! Good vibes.

Tuesday night I havested 5 fatties and a small one, weighed out to 100g wet

Here's some nice clusters on my last few cakes before the end of their first flush. Still not totally mature but I have picked a few mature guys.

Heres about 150g wet worth of harvest off 3 cakes:

I've taken another 50g wet since with my total for about 6 cakes coming to about an oz dry. Probably another 100g wet worth to harvest off my last 2-3 cakes.

I've redunked all my cakes besides the last ones which should be fully mature by tomorrow
I've also birthed my 8 Ecuadorian cakes which had a bunch of pins from consolidating 10-12 days.. (stupid store was out of perlite so I had to order it and wait..)

I'll be setting up my second sgfc tomorrow, Dunking my last 3 B+ cakes/harvesting...and then to end it all trippin time!!

I also took a few more B+ prints just incase some of my others were contaminated, I really just need to finally make my SAB with arm holes...maybe one day hahah.

Let me know what you think!! How does it look?

Heres a pic right before some harvesting, and what's up with the cap on this shroom? veil didnt even break...I assume genetics?

Hell yeah, awesome start man.

Now is the time to start preparing for a bulk grow. It's even easier than cakes

Hell yes! I've been doing plenty of research on bulk grows for a minute, beginning to buy all the supplies I'll need too.

Planning on getting some prints from all 3 strains I have (save some for the future) and eventually cloning and isolating each strain as I grow until I get some awesome results!

As a young mycologist I've got plenty to learn but I plan on taking all steps very carefully. Thanks for the replies!

My first mushroom is GROWING!

I've been doing my best to keep my sgfc misted when the sides are dry, I put about 10 drops of water on the top end casing on my cakes...would this hurt my mushrooms if there was pinning underneath?

The rest of my cakes still have great looking myc on the outside, I'm just hoping to see many more pins in the next couple of days. Any tips?

Also I think I need to drill more holes in the bottom of my FC (near the very edge) since I dont think the perlite has enough holes.

I'm also using that miricle grow perlite I found at Ace Hardware...and have seen people say to try and use more coarse perlite. Tips??

Looking good!  Might be a little on the dry side--how are you misting?

I've been misting 3-4 times a day, once when I wake up, before work, after work and right before I go to sleep. About 5-6 mists each time not totally poining at the cakes but directly over the sgfc.

I was thinking it could be a bit dry too since sometimes I have a fan going in my room with the window open since its a bit warmer and I like to blaze lol. . the door to my closet stays open though.

The shrooms look like they have a little white layer over them is that stuff in my water? The top end casing is usually moist in my cakes, should I drop another 10 drops of water on the tops of them, or avoid that since they have pins?

Don't worry about damaging your pins.  And I don't think 5-6 sprays over the entire container is enough unless you live somewhere very humid.  Check out your perlite--is the surface of it dry to the touch?

Yes the surface is dry to the touch of my perlite. I do live somewhere pretty humid 95 at night, 30-40 during the summer day. But should I be adding water to the perlite? Or misting a bit more?

Yeah, you need to be misting a lot more.  If your perlite is dry you should fix that, and from now on mist until everything glistens.
