Chlorophyllum something??
    #18587439 - 07/20/13 10:25 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Hey, complete amateur at mushroom identification here. I'm (still) waiting for my first batch of grain spawn to grow and am looking for other mushroom related activities to stop me from checking the grain every five minutes (it's only been a day...)

So, rather dull LA summer, I guess the foggy coldness is ok for mushrooms. Found this in a suburban lawn a few feet away from some bushes.

Using my amateur google based mushroom identification powers, it seems I've found either a Chlorophyllum rhacodes or Chlorophyllum molybdites. I'm taking a spore print now but the mushrooms are pretty young. It doesn't bruise red though so I guess it's not rhacodes?  Or maybe I'm just totally wrong, can someone help confirm?

Couldn't find much info on these as far as eating goes other than this site http://www.mssf.org/cookbook/shaggyparasol.html which speaks very highly about them. I'm having a hard time imagining these tasting any different than a button mushroom. Anyhow, I probably shouldn't eat these.

Speaking of which, Chlorophyllum rhacodes is saprobic but I couldn't find any info on people growing them. Anyone know of any attempts?

Dont eat those. Especially if theres a possibility that they are Chlorophyllum Molybdites.

If you intend to eat mushrooms in this genus you need to collect ones mature enough to give you a spore print.
With this genus Green spore print = poisonous. Otherwise you're probably good.

Those are young Chlorophyllum molybdites, do not eat them!

I have seen 1000's of them around they grow in peoples yards, If you get one fully open the spore print is green. They are a great starter mushroom for identification as well as microscopic examination.
