Over 2 months, maybe close to 3 I can't remember.  The date was on the bag and I tossed it when I stripped it

Finally got some Lion's mane.

Did you like the lions mane?  For me they have an interesting flavor but the texture is a bit odd.

Here is the tail end of my turkey grow.  I need to harvest soon.

A bag of nidiformis that for some reason after 8 weeks in the fc decided to pin.  I'll capture the glow once it has gills.

I thought the lion's mane was awesome, one of my favorites in a while.  You definitely have to make sure it's cooked enough, I had one bite that wasn't cooked enough and it was pretty nasty with a weird texture.  I just make sure and slice kinda thin and saute till nice and golden brown, almost crispy, with some garlic salt.  So delicious that way.

That's a cool looking pin.

looking good, i'd like to fruit them.  supposed to be on par with reishi for cancer, no?

here are random pics from the last few days:

1-pinks are very pink in the first one
2-baby gold enoki, pond fogger needs new disks
3-big-ass beautiful blue oysters 2nd flush off amycel logs
4-mushrooms from a recent concert, old-man-of-the-woods and fly agaric
5-big bouquet getting blue in the cold.  much larger, but fewer caps with this amycel strain than my other one.
6-chicken of the woods been around about a month or so, no fruits yet :^)

Aloha DON on Oak sawdust.
Fruited outdoors in a shotgun FC (no perlite)
Over a year old and they decided to fruit just before I went on vacation.
Still small, I decide to wait to harvest:

Back from Vegas:

One shiitake cap only:

It's amazing how massive shiitake will get!  The spore load from a mature and fully open fruit is like spray paint, here's a very old pic of one of mine:

What a load of spore dust!!

This thread is the bomb.  So inspiring!!

I've got a few things in bags right now such as more Kings and shitakes and a few bags of agrocybe aegerita.

But current fruits have been nonstop shitake and some Kings.

I'd like the Kings to be bigger frankly.  I blame the vicious heat which only just relented.  Hope next flush is bigger.

Meantime I can't believe I never grew shitakes before.  So delicious!  So easy!  And they just keep on giving and giving.  When I get tired of looking at blocks and toss them in the compost they keep right on fruiting.  Gonna be a new favorite mushroom for sure.

QoK, any experiments you've done with getting shiitake to pin better?  In your first pic I see two blocks, one with more fruit than the other.  Are they different strains or did you treat them differently?

For me, slapping or cold shocking seems to hinder rather than help.

I never noticed slapping to make a difference in my limited experience with shiitake, but cold shock is the only way I've gotten them to flush again.

I'm going to throw out a guess that the left block was a first flush, and the right one a 2nd or later.  That and maybe also different strains?  (Or the caps are just wetter on the left, I could be completely wrong)  Kinda curious myself now

I'm ashamed to say that once I peel off my bags I no longer know the strain or age of the block.  That is pretty awful and I am remedying it by now writing on some plastic plant ID stakes and putting them into the block.  It's either TS-1 or a "mystery" shitake I have that was sent to me as 'lion's mane' but was actually shitake.

The TS1 fruit more prolifically all at once and the "mystery" strain tends to produce single, very large fruits, or 2-3 such.  I have noticed them to be extremely 'furry' and pretty.

Both types flush again and again; I dunk them in a five gallon bucket to rehydrate, and the repeat flushes are much sparser.

I know that block on the left is TS1; it started fruiting like crazy in the bag before it had browned all the way.

I pretty much haven't done anything special and can't bring myself to slap my blocks.  When I birth them I leave them in the fridge overnight first.

I haven't treated them any differently; substrate is fir sawdust, gypsum, wheat bran, and a handful of aspen shavings from the pet store.

Jeff what kind of substrate mix are you using and will you be offering cultures in the future? :datass:
