Here's what I've been working on, Hericium erinaceus fruiting out of 1L wide mouth mason jars. The interesting thing about these are they are from the exact same clone/culture/agar plate but almost look like entirely different species. I think this is caused by either a bacterial infection, laggard culture or strain/phenotype expression, but I definitely and unfortunately have a bacterial infection in some of the jars.

That is odd, the pic on the right looks very much like H. coralloids or something.

That's exactly what I thought looking at it. I am 95% sure it's from the same culture. The 5% uncertainty is because I do have a H. ramosum culture that I tried to clone and transfer to grain but it had a bad sulphur smell to it so I tossed it. I made 4 erinaceus and 2 ramosum at the time. I threw the 2 ramosum out, refrigerated the 4 erinaceus and made 4 new erinaceus from the another erinaceus plate. Those 4 new jars inoculated the 38 1L mason jars I currently have fruiting.

I think it's from bacteria in the substrate causing mutations or old culture causing mutation.

That's crazy I've never seen Swordbelt grow the fat stems like that.  There's other cultures that only grow the fat stems but Swordbelt is usually skinny ones.

It's not typical, but luckily the stems are pretty damn tasty!

My first Lions Mane. I love this species! Spawned on sawdust, oat bran, gypsum and oak chips. Top growing out of bags. Will try side slits next time. Enjoy! And suggestions always welcome!

thats wild. Was this some kind of mushroom/produce delivery truck? Maybe they're munching on some kind of insulation.

yes deadmandave! theyre feeding on the pine wood structure of the insulated box, crazy choice 😂😂😂 the straange fact is this truck is from a meat company and never loaded mushrooms, i think the contamination comes probably from using pallets that were used previously used for transporting mushrooms and got spores

due to the coronavirus restrictions this truck has been in the garage for a month a definately the ambient was nice for oysters there...my father also told me is the second year the mushrooms appear about the same season so the mycelium is probably well stablished there and lives all year around between the walls of the insulated box
