Not my photo, but this dude(Tradd Cotter) did it successfully-

Interesting, thanks for the update - like I said I've been out of the loop for a while.  Wonder why so many have failed in the past and this dude was able to do it?

Any idea what the casing was and what the pasteurization method was?  Maybe some microbes of the right type survived.

All I know is watching old, contaminated stropharia spawn in a jar is pretty amazing, it eats the shit out of bacteria, mold, pretty much everything.  I think it can also eat nematodes.  Or is that just oysters?  Fuck my memory

Gorgeous mycelial growth on this BSOY2 unsupplemented pasteurized oak sawdust bag

And this Pioppino wedge from at the very latest September is going nuts!

What strain of piopinno?

I've never heard of BSOY2 as well, just checked it out on aloha. Interested in seeing the results!

I forget the name of it, starts with an "A"- I'll check when I get home.

You can check out a previous BSOY2 growHere.

Aegerita is not the strain name, it's the species name.  Agrocybe aegerita (actually now I think they've changed it to Cyclocybe aegerita), but either way it's all the same - Agrocybe/Cyclocybe aegerita = black poplar, pioppino, "the poplar mushroom", "chestnut mushroom", velvet pioppino, etc, depending on who you ask.

Just to clarify   Unless I'm confused and they're calling their strain Aegerita, which would be really odd

The best strain of it I know is from I believe Aloha, and it's called Swordbelt.  Amazing fruiter.

Just clearing up any confusion

So where did you get your strain of C. Aegerita?  Maybe you were lucky enough to get the swordbelt strain!

Either way good luck with it, it's one of my all-time favorites to grow AND eat.

I'm actually trying to figure out who sent these wedges to me- had nine from the same cat in my fridge from maybe as long as 6 months ago, tried pouring through my messages but there's so damn many. All of them except for the SRA are jumping out beautifully on plates.

Shiitake 3782, Shaggy Mane, and King Oyster

from what i've read SRA needs to be agitated . I'm not sure how that works with plates though, I remember shaking the grain around every few days being recommended for grain culture

awesome jars btw - turtles rule!!!:thumbup:

Interesting, never heard that about SRA.  It may also be because I accidentally dropped it upside down so it may not be getting the GE it needs. I'm going to do some sterile work today so I might just flip it over and see what happens (can't hurt something that isn't doing anything, right?).

And I am just in love with this BSOY2 mycelium. So friggin beautiful to me.

And yes I know I shouldn't pick up the bag but I hadn't seen what was going on on the back side. I was gentle I promise.

Yeah that technique doesn't really apply to the culture on agar.  The last SRA I put to grain was from a 2 year old plate in the fridge, not even slanted.  It started growing just fine when I put it on grain.  Yeah just flipping over the wedge I think wouldn't be a bad idea, see if it takes off then.

Mine never stalled while colonizing the grain either, I just did my normal 1 good shake like I would any other species and the jar was fully colonized pretty quick.  I think where it tends to stall is when you put the grain to wood in bags.  That's when you can knead around the bag and disturb it to see if it helps.

That's just my experience though, cultures can vary.

How did you initiate your second flush? I only get one really good one then the green ninja gets my blocks.

Pearl Oyster
Had a little mix left over from stuffing a large bag so I put the leftovers in a small grow bag. Finally got something to share. My first ever mushrooms I grew. I did however break the bigger one off taking it out of the bag but have plates sterilizing now so I get some clones off it. Not a complete loss.

Needs more FAE (Fresh-Air-Exchange), Bry Bry, good going for a 1st time.
The absence of the caps means more air, Caps form to lots of O2.

Kings, cased with 50/50 coir/verm, on non-supplemented, sterilized oak sawdust

Kings
on non-supplemented, heat pasteurized oak/alder sawdust

Aloha PL on sterilized, 15% supplemented HWFP.  The notation "potato" on the bag is because it was originally cloned to a sterilized potato slice (happy fun time experiment)

Western Oregon Wild Oyster  1st attempt at fruiting

I apologize for the wildly different size of my pics.  Just updated to a supporter account and all my pics want to be huge.  I resized and re-uploaded them but they're still too big except for the last one.  I won't post photos again until I figure this out.

I ordered a greenhouse for the shrooms building but it is missing a part. Until it comes in I have a fan blowing into it with the humidifier in front of the fan. FAE shouldn't be an issue now.

I put the one I broke off back where it started from and it reattached itself sooooooooo waiting to see if it grows now.
