Arizona cop arrested for pointing gun at store clerk while drunk
    #18576916 - 07/18/13 04:44 PM (10 years, 9 months ago)

Pima County Sheriff’s deputies say a 23-year-old off-duty police officer was drunk when he pointed his gun at a convenience store clerk for no apparent reason on Tuesday.

According to KVOA, surveillance video showed Kyle James McCartin and a companion entering Giant gas station in Tucson on Tuesday at around 3 a.m. Both men appeared to be wearing bullet-proof vests, but no other clothing on their upper bodies.

In the video, McCartin was seen smiling and pointing his handgun at the clerk at least two times.

The men fled on foot, but officers eventually caught up with them at a nearby apartment complex. McCartin was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A judge ordered him not to consume any alcohol or return to the scene of the crime.

Tucson Police said on Tuesday that McCartin had been fired after a brief investigation. He had only been with the department since September and was on probationary status at the time.

“We would hope that the people in the community would take this incident and hot hold it against the other officers, toward deputies that are working hard,” PCSD Deputy Jesus Banuelos told KVOA.

KGUN pointed out that former Tucson police officer Martin Ward was arrested earlier this year on child pornography charges.

The cashier seemed pretty calm for having a gun pulled on him.

I would like to see what prisoner#1 would have to say about this.

My guess is he would argue that the cop was totally in the right and the store cashier was obviously instigating a confrontation because he was sober.
