To me overstand's plant looks more like what i have seen of mature calea plants. But i bought seeds from a solid dealer...i don't know...could be a different strain.

I just found this thread
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15317931

Apparently I have the nonbitter strain. It may or may not be the same thing as calea z. However it is reported to be active. Whatever this is, it is out growing most of the invasive weeds in my yard. About 6 weeks ago I got it as a 6 inch cutting. I just recently chopped about half of it into several pieces that I am rooting in water right now. At the rate that it is growing I may have a pound of leaves before the first frost. LOL

Calea has also been very easy for me to grow from a small live plant.  I should probably make some cuttings soon.

Believe it or not the plants you guys have is not, the "non-bitter calea" but rather another completely different unrelated species, Chromolaena odorata.

Here is an example of what you are looking for in terms of the correct species.  It's an old pic of a plant now looks more of a tree seen below.  Calea ternifolia is actually the more formally used species designation while zacatechichi is a synonym.

Last summer..

Its been in the ground for a few weeks now, gonna get pretty crazy.

Thanks for all of the great posts.

I think I am going to try growing both from seed as someone recommended (hopefully I get a few to sprout).

I have already found the non-bitter that I plan on buying, but I am unsure where to buy bitter seeds.

I have attached a picture provided by the seller of the non-bitter I will be buying below. Can someone confirm this?

I have attached a picture of what I am hoping is the bitter below. If it is in fact the bitter I will be buying it. Can someone confirm this?

A while down the road after these have grown up, I will post back with my experiences with each of the two types. Thanks.

No problemo.

I grew the same plant you have for a long while before putting two and two together.

I wouldn't not grow it or anything, its a fast growing neat looking plant.  I kind of enjoy the tomato-y smell the leaves have.

The different between using that in comparison to the true Calea (which during flowering is near identical) is pretty remarkable.  Crazy fucking dreams and non-placebo effects if you quid some during the day..

Any advice on the pics I posted above? I am trying to get seeds or a cutting of both the bitter/ non-bitter from a reliable vendor. Those pictures are from the two vendors I am considering buying from. Thanks.

Unfortunately neither one looks to be Calea but rather the species I referenced above.

Thanks for the advice. I am glad I didn't buy them yet.

Now I just need to find a reliable vendor. I have heard of a trading forum on this site, but have yet to find it. Would it be possible for me to buy a cutting/seeds from someone on here? If I recall correctly that may be against the rules, but if that's the case I will edit this post accordingly.

It takes 90 days and 50 posts to unlock the Marketplace. It's against the rules to trade outside the Marketplace, and the 90 days feels like foreeeeeever if you want to buy something from there. Just have to be patient. Good luck finding a cutting!

It does seem like quite a wait for something I'd love to get started on, but I might just wait it out if it is probable that I could  find someone willing to sell/trade a cutting/seeds for both the bitter and non-bitter varieties on the marketplace.

I would buy from some random vendor online, but I don't have the knowledge to determine whether they are actually selling what I would like to buy. I feel like it would be much easier to find a reliable source on the marketplace, so it looks like my calea zacatechichi testing will be on hold for 3 months. Hopefully the wait will be worthwhile. Thanks again.

After a cleanup, this thread needs another reminder perhaps.
I don't want to have to do that a third time.

Might get a couple of the non bitter strain.
Is there any major difference other than taste?

I haven't been able to get a definite answer, so I plan on experimenting with both and reporting back. Some say that the non-bitter doesn't have the same dream enhancement properties as the bitter does, but there are quite a few look-a-like plants so it's hard to be sure if those statements are valid.
