NMDA Antagonists?

I just read this article: http://www.webmd.com/pain-management/features/pain-relief-breakthrough-pain
Quote:
Drugs called NMDA antagonists (N-methyl-D-aspartate) have been another advance in narcotics for pain relief, says Rollin M. Gallagher, MD, MPH, director of pain management at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. NMDA antagonists block NMDA receptors to stop or minimize opioid drug tolerance.
"NMDAs allow us to provide pain relief with a lower dose of a narcotic drug," Gallagher tells WebMD. "Opioids are very effective, very safe, because they don't damage organs like other drugs do -- but you can develop tolerance. NMDAs can help prevent tolerance." Meaning less drugs and better pain relief.
I've got the question, are NMDAs legal and readily available for purchase/some better than others?

Legal:
Nitrous Dextromethorphan (Robitussin) Methoxetamine (MXE)
Illegal: PCP KETAMINE probs various others
They reset a lot of brain circuitry including reversing opiate tolerance. I tripped balls on DXM (the only one I've read of being used with opiates) right now .

Co-administering magnesium with your opiate of choice is a common suggestion. Some Bluelighters have also been having successful experiments with Memantine, an Alzheimer's drug. DXM (Dextromethorphan) has also been used to successfully combat and lower tolerances. Bio-assays seem to suggest that DXM lowers it the quickest, Memantine is a bit slower in lowering tolerance and more difficult to obtain, and magnesium is useful in maintaining the (lack of) tolerance you have.
Here are some links to get you started: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NMDA_receptor_antagonist#Uncompetitive_channel_blockers http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/542754-NMDA-Antagonist-Tolerance-and-Withdrawal-Concerns http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/501875-NMDA-antagonists-for-tolerance-a-collection-of-the-evidence-and-anecdotal-reports

Thanks for those links, as well as your info st1llnox! Is it necessary to routinely take magnesium prior to dosing, to build it up in your system, or is it taken just before dosing?

mxe + oxycodone tablets would be the best thing since bottled water.

Magnesium is good for just about everything. Your body uses it for a lot of vital functions. I've found the most efficient way to dose it is transdermally. a bottle of this shit will last a while http://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Minerals-Ultra-Pure-Magnesium/dp/B001AD0HL8 Coincidentally it seems a lot of people are deficient

No problem, OP... I LOVE the NMDA system so I almost creamed myself when I saw your thread's title.

st1llnox pretty much covered the commons....
Bacopa monnieri and Uncaria tomentosa (Cat's Claw) are two legal herbs that are relatively mild NMDA antagonists, no where near as strong as things like DXM, ketamine, or nitrous. I take the Bacopa pretty regularly because it has major benefits all around for cognition and memory, the fact it keeps kratom tolerance somewhat in check is a plus.
Cat's claw contains rhynchophylline, which is a non-competitive NMDA antagonist. Rhynchophylline is also found in kratom...isn't it cool how kratom, like all the medicinal plants, have a spectrum of alkaloids that synergize, balance, and potentiate each other.
When using kratom and when I dabble with opioids occasionally, I will use occasional low doses of DXM, regular low doses with occasional high doses of Bacopa monnieri & Cat's Claw, and daily magnesium supplement for keeping tolerance in check. The bacopa, Cat's Claw, and magnesium is something I take almost daily anyways, I'll just bump up the amounts a little bit or take one large dose of the bacopa once or twice a week when using kratom.
Not to go too off topic...but I also notice a very pronounced anti-depressant effect and a clear mind the days after taking more of a moderate dose of NMDA antagonists, such as DXM or K. This is something I noticed long before I heard about the studies showing the anti-depressant effect of ketamine...I always thought there was something going on there when I would feel all sorts of refreshed after a night of taking a dissociative.

Great post, openmind!
DXM, as long as you don't way overdo it, actually resets certain brain chemistry so it's not just you!
