Thin unhealthy mycelium? (Pics)

I made myself some jars and inoculated, In a few days very thin white mycelium appeared. The mycelium started where my inoculation points were and slowly moved outward. The thing is, the mycelium that grew from that point started to get a lot thicker as it grew. So now I have a mix of thin and thick mycelium. All the jars I inoculated have this thin mycelium at the inoculation points. Could this be unhealthy mycelium because of pour substrate (bad BRF ratio), or is it a contam?

If you can spot more than one type of "mycelium" in the same jar, it's most likely contaminated

I thought so, but could it be bad substrate? Will the mycelium look thin if it's unhealthy?

I would beg to differ. mycelium comes in many forms. Yes, contams start off looking similar and blossom from there, but mycelium can grow from aborts, as aerial mycelium, and on the base of fruits.

I would imagine your ratio is fine if you followed the directions. theres a pretty big gray area. contam? see, i don't know about that. i see some ropey stuff, i see some blank areas; its kinda a waiting game here. just chill on them. worst case scenario is that colors will explode in there and its contamed- not really that bad. try again.

So your saying the longer I wait, its either going to get thicker(whiter) or its going to show colorful molds? The jar looks 99% done, the blank areas are actually the thin mycelium I was talking about. My cameras older sorry for the low res pics.

yes. totally what i'm saying. wait it out and it will either get stronger, or it will show you that it is contamed. i can not explain the blank areas, but i CAN say that it has happened to me a couple times before with MS.
mind you, once you have 100% colonization, you have to wait the 7 day consolidation period anyways before you birth, dunk, and roll. by then, you'll know for sure.
i understand your concern, but it looks good in my book.

Alright cool. Thanks man, you gave me much needed peace of mind. All 7 of my jars have this thin/thick mycelium. I blended brown rice instead of using brown rice flour. I'm thinking that could be why its unhealthy.

I thought they looked way too funky. I've never seen thick mycelium growing outward from thin mycelium.

If your using BRF then your using PFTek? And a spore syringe?
You said in a "few days" that stuff started growing? If you used a spore syringe, it should take more than a few days for the spores to germinate. depending on how many days few is.
I'd throw em in on a different shelf and forget about em for a week or two and then see what they look like.
I had a couple jars that I remember looking weird, but then I ignored them for a while and forgot about them, and I found them yesterday and look completely colonized... and healthy. I am wary of them cuz I know I moved them for a reason, but they look fine now, so I'm gonna birth em ad see what happens.
I like to wait things out.

I'll do the same, I'll wait it out. Yes I'm following the PF tek, but I used blended brown rice instead of four and I steam sterilized for 90 min. Three days or so is what it took to germ (some jars longer). Thanks for your input, means a lot! I guess if there's no weird colors in it after it gets done colonizing and if it smells like mushys its good?

I know this is old but what happened with these jars? Have some inoculated at the moment which are showing similar characteristics so would love to know how your turned out.
